I hit 50 points today too. I think the extra point is from the Wimbledon v Town game in the EFL cup last season where a point was given. It was the fact that the game sold out but there were a lot of empty seats that made the club change the point rules for cup games.

Is 50 the max?

10 for 2 x membership
19 PL
1 Wimbledon
16 Champ played
3 sold but not played - Stoke, Sheff Wed, Portsmouth
1 Blackburn abandoned game (sure you got points for both games)

Many 50 point super fans did not behave like super fans to the team at the end of Wrexham game!

It is a bit. I think I’m on 14, frustratingly. There has been the odd match I could have got one to get to the 15 point threshold, but they always clashed with stuff we’ve had on, which is why I haven’t got many in the first place.

It’s nuts. I’ve never had a problem getting away tickets in all my time following the beggars around. Even back in PL days under Burley I was able to get them easily, although home less so.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

This old chestnut again. I started on 0 when the points system started; I have 35 currently. There’s a reason you’re on zero and it’s nothing to do with a closed shop.

Wonder if the big clusters of empty seats at ‘sold out’ Watford will get them to rethink how many comp tickets are held back.

No, not at the moment

The days you could walk into ground and buy tickets. The ones who don't live near Ipswich so hard to get tickets. Few northern games with bigger allocations get into too . You end up watching non league games or lower pyramid ones.

It wasn't so long ago that season ticket holders (or was it season ticket holders who were also members?) could buy 4 tickets for away games.

At a time when I couldn't get to enough home games to justify a season ticket, it meant one of my friends could easily get me a ticket for away games. And I don't recall ever not getting a ticket, even for London games.

As an aside, my daughter (a teacher) recently signed up to the Blue Light discount card for emergency workers and the like. She noted that she had the option of entering the ballot for tickets for the upcoming home game against Millwall. This is rather surprising, and I'll have to ask her whether the same is the case for away games, and whether one has to prove some sort of link to Ipswich.

I do understand that emergency workers may struggle to have season tickets, so some sort of accommodation for them may be appropriate but spreading the net nationwide does seem a bit odd.

For your information there are 400 seats available at Stoke if you want to get your first point.

and nearly half the away games have gone to general sale

In fact with 2 years of membership and going to every away game that went down to your 10+ band, you could now be on 20 points...

I see both sides.

The 'closed shop' accusations aren't helped by the fact that the club clearly couldn't care less about abuse of the system (a sell-out is a sell-out, right lads?), and the fact that I would guess that at least some of the 50+ club haven't attended all 39 matches for which a point has been awarded.

I appreciate the point that a lot of matches are now reaching general sale, allowing those on 0-10 points to start collecting points, but what good will that be to them if we get promoted again this season, and tickets no longer make it to the lower points brackets?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Vicious cycle though - if you don’t buy tickets when available you will never get out of the lower tiers.

Most PL games got down to 15+ last season so you only needed to have done 5 games out of 23 in the Champ (plus 2 memberships) to get tickets to the vast majority of games. And it wasn’t hard to get to 5 games in the Champ starting at zero as loads got to 5+.

If I remember right, the magic number for a guaranteed Premier League tour of all the grounds was starting the season on 16pts, but you'd always have been hanging on by your fingernails points-wise. It wouldn't have been hard (availability-wise) to get to 6 matches in the previous Champ season though.

If you'd started the Prem season on 20pts or more you'd have been able to pick and choose for the majority of the season with the exception of Brentford, Palace and Bournemouth.

This season, even with a new membership starting this season, you'd already have been able to get tickets for 11 point-earning matches (soon to be 12 as Sheff Weds is likely to hit 5+ too), 14 point-earning matches so far if you started on 10points.

You can see how a genuine 'closed shop' could emerge after a sustained run of Prem seasons, but each time we 'reset' with a dip to the Champ, there's ample opportunity to 'break-in' and get into a position where getting Prem tickets would be easily attainable.

Being in the 15+ bracket last season meant a PL ticket was far from guaranteed, it was a mad scramble for a handful of tickets. Especially at the start of the season.
