a lot of people were saying that we didn't need yet another 10/winger, but would've had the added bonus of seriously weakening them!

It would be incredible to have Mehmeti, Nunez, Clarke, Philogene AND Azeez. Oh yeah, and Burns, Egeli, McAteer and Akpom! Would be delighted if we could get Azeez at the end of the season, but of course much depends on where we end up, and where Millwall end up. Most likely it's another Hackney situation where we almost got our man but have now missed the sliding doors moment. I feel there's going to have to be a lot of ruthlessness across these three positions at the end of the season. Can't quite figure out how it all works tbh. If we go up, I believe we have to sign Akpom. All of the rest of them are ours already. It may be that that little lot would be good enough for the Prem, but if that's not thought to be the case, one wonders how one gets rid of enough of them without taking huge losses that would be hard to square with FFP/PSR. A nice problem to have, I guess. If we don't go up, you can't see Akpom being here next season. Our strikers are scoring right now, so I'm going to enjoy that and not speculate on what might happen in that position over the summer. It would be lovely to have someone on the right who is as effective as Burns was in his absolute prime, and Hutch was during his best period for us. Before he needed those cough drops. But right now things are looking good. Amazing that we can start without both star left wingers and still look so effective and so comfortable. I think that is down to: i) Mehmeti and Nunez being unexpectedly synergetic in the same lineup ii) Swansea coming to play football, allowing us space iii) Neil constituting an upgrade on Cajuste/Taylor iv) Our strikers being clinical v) I mean I've just got to mention Mehmeti again. Individual moments, creating goals. Technique, fitness and work ethic. The bargainest goldmine ever!

Indeed, and although we never took our steamroller form for granted, we were rightly offended when the less well-informed observers of the league would dismiss us by saying arrogantly that we would inevitably "fall away". It's true that Millwall's goal difference is pretty skimpy, and that's often a sign of a side that may well be in a position that cannot be sustained. But we're now getting towards the business end of the season, and if they have one more point than a rival, goal difference won't matter. All they have to do is take it one game at a time, and who knows where they'll find themselves. They will consider themselves in the hunt for 2nd. I don't think it will happen, but (a) they are not out of it, and (b) they will make a pesky opponent in the playoffs, make no mistake. We know from past experience that the playoffs are inhospitable, and we've failed enough times with good squads having finished in a really strong 3rd position. Hopefully we can continue our current form. 5 goals without conceding, over two games, home and away. We win our games, and it might be fun to see what Millwall do to Boro in the playoff final! But plenty of battles to be won and lost before then. Including at FPR against Millwall and Boro!
