Let’s not have this ‘Swansea were perfect for us’ narrative shall we 17:04 - Feb 28 with 1525 viewsunstableblue

Let’s celebrate a top drawer Town performance where we moved the ball so well against a decent side, and we had individual brilliance across the team

Well done McKenna and the boys.

Good goals from strikers as well.

Clicking in nicely and at just the right time.

It’s a superb battle at the top now. Shame about Coventry. But they’re gone.

Let’s stop the lethargy in the fan base, and get PR rocking on Tuesday for a pivotal game.

Was PR as quiet as it sounded on tv

All you could hear was blue action with the same song for 30 minutes.

Both are true though. Swansea being open does play to our strengths. However it should eb a reminder to our fans of how good we can be and that one of the biggest issues we face is teams often breaking their normal gameplan to try and stifle us.

I just don’t think they were as open and poor in their defensive shape as people are making out

Tried to play football against us. Such an error.

Little doubt Swansea coming to PR to play football helped us, but equally made for an entertaining game and we thoroughly deserved the three points. An excellent performance all round, with strong performances all over the pitch. Shame other results didn’t go our way, but at this stage of the season it will happen some weeks. We just need to concentrate on winning. We’ve bounced back very well from the disappointment of Wrexham.

Not sure it’s that much of a narrative tbh! It’s pretty true they played into our hands. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t a decent performance though.

Sorry, typo, I meant it doesn’t mean it wasn’t a decent performance. We played well.

Swansea played to our strengths. We struggle against teams who don’t even intend to play a game of football against us.

We played well, linked up well with patterns of play, started on the front foot, & had the benefit of quality new players in Mehmeti & Neil, plus Nunez back getting fitter. These are all tremendous positives for us going in to the business end of the season.
But just like one bad game/result doesn't mean the end of the world, one good performance/result doesn't mean we're going to steamroll all comers between now & May.
Swansea coming to play football & us getting a very early goal did have an impact in how we looked & were able to create goalscoring chances; we have had performances & results like this earlier in the season and still went back to struggling against the low block defensive sides set up to frustrate us afterwards, so we can't get carried away or complacent.
Certainly the positive quality play of Neil in midfield & the quick feet of Mehmeti provide us with weapons we didn't have pre-January, while the brain of Nunez, now comfortable & revelling as our central #10, will give defences far more to contend with, while having to double up on the threat from Clarke/Philogene & Davis down our left.

We'll stop saying that if you stop saying "Coventry are gone"

You can play well and also a team play a way to help you. They aren't mutually exclusive.

The atmosphere was decent I thought, but I'm sure people who weren't there know better.

You've done that have you? Seems an odd thing to talk about with a dozen or so people. Couple of mates of mine mentioned in the pub afterwards that they thought the atmosphere was better.

Weird! Is your first thought on here to come on and pick a fight with me? I’m in a few shared WhatsApps groups with multiple people who attend games and talk about their afternoons.

There’s literally an entire thread about it below of people that were at the game. Combine that with the fact it sounded incredibly flat on the TV and that I’ve been at a routine home win this season that seemed to have a similar amount energy around it, then that’s how I’ve come to my educated guess. I haven’t even made a big deal of anything but you do you.

If you thought it was decent then great, maybe you spend your evening challenging others in the north stand thread below rather than arm chair fans like me ;)

Let’s hope even more atmosphere Tuesday then.

I actually thought the crowd was ok and pretty supportive. It was never the loudest , bar the odd game, and that won’t change, but I felt the mood was pretty positive and supportive. That included when the subs were warming up.

The game itself? Lots of positives. Swansea didn’t look that bad in midfield and going forward, but struggled at the back to contain our forwards.

Particular shout out to Nunez, Neil and Mehmeti. Nunez did an outrageous bit of skill to lose a bunch of Swansea players on the West Stand side first half that was worth the entrance money alone. What a good player he is.

Mehmeti was a constant menace aside from his terrific goal and assist. But Dan Neil - not a flashy player, but boy is he an effective one. Didn’t give the ball away, always available and I noticed he was doing a fair bit of communicating with the other players too. If he stays, he’s got ‘Captain’ written all over him. Top player.

Thought Wes Burns had a good game too.

Agree, very good win yesterday, atmosphere a bit muted in first half despite perfect start but better in the second. It really does need to rock Tuesday though, Hull's away form is incredible.
