Lots of today to enjoy I thought without too much stress thanks to the early goal. Dan Neil looks like the secret sauce as he grows into that role and has the quality to keep us ticking over too.

I'd say it was a play off hunting performance rather than top two. We've definitely played better this year. Sloppy in possession at times, particularly passing, and gave them a lot of room to play - but maybe we knew they didn't carry a massive threat so could allow it. We did what we needed to do; that's the most important thing.
Slightly off topic, but I guess we're waiting on rearranging the Portsmouth game to see if Southampton and Norwich both get through the quarter finals of the FA Cup? If they do, neither us or Pompey will have an Easter Friday game so it'll slot in there. |  |

Three observations today:
1) Neil is a step above Taylor/Cajuste. We now have a really solid partner for Matusiwa and a strong first choice midfield two.
2) We looked better balanced without Clarke and Philogene, talented individuals they might be. Burns/Nunez/Mehmeti are all team players who release the ball much faster.
3) Mehmeti played inside a lot, similar to the way Broadhead used to. That created so much more space for Leif. Unfortunately, Leifs delivery wasn't his best today. But if we keep giving him opportunities, we know he can be an assist machine. | | | |

I thought Swansea were ok, particularly going forward. Passed the ball nicely and by no means the worst team to visit here this season. Defensively they looked a bit all over the shop at times, but a good part of that was how we set about them.
Burgess? He looked better than that when he played for us. On the home/away performances I can see why an upgrade was needed, though I might be being a little harsh. [Post edited 1 Mar 7:31]

This is pretty much how I feel about us this season. I don’t think we’ve that great overall - had some decent days but also had some shockers - but we are still 4th and yesterday, out of the games I’ve been to, was as comfortable a 3 points as I have seen. I think Neil and Mehmeti give us a little more as well as more room for manoeuvre in terms of rotation. | | | |

I think yesterday was a real step forward in our creative team play in the first half. Not for a minute suggesting Swansea are a PL level team, but they played with an openness which PL would (potentially) play against us next season. We showed an ability to overpower them at that game, and then an ability in the second half to sit back on it a bit.
Stylistically, with next season in mind and in the sense of a team performance, I thought that was a great demonstration of progress, albeit we would need to strengthen in some departments. |  |
