Feel a bit sorry for Jack Clarke 07:43 - Mar 1 with 1943 viewsVic

Kept out of the first 11 by Philogene. Now it seems that the arrival of Mehmeti might put him back to being a finisher again.

Assuming the Philogene gets fit and becomes the preferred starter again Im not sure where that leaves him. Very nice problem to have for McKenna!

If Mehmeti can play across the front 3 positions , that 3 million looks like the best we have spent in a while

He will start Tuesday I’m sure, think today was just about giving his legs a rest.

Can Mehmeti play on the right?

Clarke, Nunez and Mehmeti would be interesting, with Burns to come on as an impact sub.

McKenna mentioned how much Clarke had played so you are right.

No, completely different profile to what we look for on the right.

No one does it like Burns, but McAteer the nearest replica.

I thought the first half yesterday was our most comprehensive *team* performance of the season.

We looked much more cohesive with three "team" players behind the striker. They were looking to work together to create chances, rather than doing it all themselves like Clarke and Philogene tend to. They moved the ball faster.

Clarke was pretty subdued when he came on. After a run of form in January, he's been quiet for two or three games now.

Mehmeti coming inside from the left made much more space for Leif, giving him several good crossing opportunities.

I don't know where that leaves Clarke. Probably back in the starting XI on Tuesday. But I would like to see us use Mehmeti on the left again soon.

Clarke was frustrating again though when he came on

The positive side of what he bring is his ability to drive towards the box but he just never took a shot, the commentator kept saying on tele that it never opened for him, but it did, many opportunities to take a stab towards the far post. He seems to look for the cleanest opportunity to shoot.

apart from that he was ok overall

Mehmeti though definately made us the most balanced i've seen under this new group. It was like watching broady, davis and luongo.

I don’t expect us to leave our best attacker and top scorer out of the team for long. When Billy is back the two will rotate to good effect like they have all season.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

It is worth pointing out that Clarke was excellent when he came on.

Have a feeling that Mehmeti starting on the left was partly designed to allow Leif to get further forward into the space that Clarke would otherwise often occupy, allowing us to be a bit more adventurous and on the front foot. Certainly seemed that way in the first ten seconds of the game at least.
I would also expect Clarke to come back into the starting line-up on Tuesday.

Jack Clarke is a far better player with competition .we need players fighting for places, it’s currently working for hirst and azon, Clarke will benefit from mehmetti. We pretty much have cover now in every position, really like greaves as a left back option , .. I think this is what may drag us over the line if they all stay fit. Our squad depth is ridiculously good.

Depends on what KM feels is the right balance for the side imo

If mehmeti on the left brings the best out of davis whilst he himself scores and assists and it brings positive results out of others, then we could see mehmeti there a fair bit. It also enables us to utilise he and nunez together.

Jayden and clarke have been excellent individual players and without their goals the season would look different. But we may have come across something that makes us tick more as an overall team over one that relies on goals from our left side.

More importantly tho it's another option and a very good one.

He played nearly every minute of every game since Philogene injury and we have a fixture list of 8 games in 4 weeks. He's being managed.

It’s interesting how many options we have now in that three, especially once Philogene returns. Mehmeti might give us the flexibility to play two of those positions well in a way we’ve lacked since Omari left.

Leif definitely got forward a lot yesterday. Not sure his use of the ball was quite up to scratch.

Very strong interest in Billy from Galatasaray in January so it’s possible Mehmeti may be his replacement

Completely agree. He’s some player. Looks class wherever he’s playing. Fantastic finish yesterday.
