| Wolfy upset at the local BBC Coventry media on 00:20 - Mar 10 with 3477 views | pointofblue | Reading the Coventry forum they seem to be pretty supportive of the club/Woolfenden and critical of CWR. For someone who is apparently laid back (see Lambert and, I think I'm right in saying, Cook's comments), Woolfenden does seem to have these outbursts from time to time. Perhaps he just bottles up his emotions until he explodes. | |

It’s sad when local BBC outlets have to resort to lame clickbait sheeite. The erosion continues.

Local boy who was a key cog in back to back promotions and several on here that like taking a dig at him for some reason. Bizarre behaviour.

The more bizarre behaviour was his comment upon leaving the club. He was on the scrap heap here and McKenna turned him into a Prem centre half which would’ve came with its benefits along the way - I.e bonuses, pay rises etc. 8 month previous, he signed a new deal here also. Then you look at the way Chaplin spoke during his Pompey interview, and you wonder why people maybe are irked by him and his comments.

I think those 'politics' comments from Woolfy after leaving were really poor, but this sort of comment is pretty crap tbh. He's a local lad that played a key part in our success over those 2 seasons. I'm all for taking the piss out of Chantryblueboy for being his one man fan club, in a forum 'banter' kind of way, but let's keep our criticism of Woolfy a bit more balanced.

McKenna and his own attitude, ability and capability to improve. I think he was frustrated at the way his time ended here and his comments on leaving were knee-jerk and unneccessary but lets not rewrite how good he was for in his last three seasons. Never let us down in the PL when he played and simply the victim of us getting an upgrade on O'Shea. Must be our most successful academy product in over a decade (or joint with Downes but for impact here, the most successful) and we should be proud of that. I don't really see the need to bash any of that double promotion winning team.
| Wolfy upset at the local BBC Coventry media on 09:38 - Mar 10 with 2400 views | baxterbasics | I think it's quite possible to still respect Woolfy and be grateful for what he gave us in his time here, whilst also giving a slight 'tut' regarding his comments upon leaving. Similar for Omari - the manner of his leaving doesn't need to spoil our view of his contribution. Shame Woolfy felt that way and the need to vent. But lets not fall into the trap of certain McKenna critics who think our manager let go a team of world-beaters only to replace them with weaker players. That narrative is nonsense. | |

I think that says more about our academy/ability to develop young players/Evans letting the club rot than it does about Woolfenden. I liked Woolfy. Decent centre half. Not the best I’ve ever seen, but certainly not the worst. The arrival of Gamechanger and in particular McKenna catapulted his career and I’m sure when his career is done he will be grateful for that. I never understand why players use the media to express gripes, like LW has over game time this season or his opportunities last. He might have been drawn into it or it might just be a journo leading a player by the nose. Regardless, there’s nothing to be gained by engaging in that way. You are better off for public consumption stressing the good stuff then privately booting the manager’s door down. Anyway, as a former player who made of 180 appearances for us, I wish Woolfenden well, wherever his career takes him. [Post edited 10 Mar 10:28]

I think some people take the bashing too far and who massively re-write history about how well he performed. However I don't accept that his comments were "knee-jerk". His "politics" claims came more than a month after he'd left the club, that's not knee-jerk, that's just bitter. He rightly deserves pelters for those comments, especially in the context of others who have moved on and how they've engaged on the topic.

Not unusual for a football club's fans to get precious over comments by a former player who may have left under less-than-amicable circumstances. Ipswich generally do very well in terms of relations with our old boys. But you can't expect every young man to react well to being passed over as a starter in higher divisions after having spent years working their way up from the Youths to the very edge of promised breakthrough.

I just think he thinks a lot of himself, and whilst he has his fan base on here from some quarters, he really isnt all that.

Correction - McGreal brought him back into the side in his caretaker role. McKenna just continued playing him once he took over.

He has certainly replaced them with better individuals. We'll see at the end of the season if they make up a better team.
