Must admit I find people's overly literal interpretation of the phrase 'must-win' a little bit tedious.
Fair enough if you don't like the phrase at all but if it's a notion you're willing to entertain at all, then I am afraid we are surely getting into must-win territory here. That is if we're talking about autos.

Not sure we'll stuff them. Despite their poor form they've got the third best defensive record in the Championship so they don't really get stuffed. It's a game we should win and if other results go against us then failing to win would be a set back. Don't go in for all this must win stuff though. |

We're at the stage where we need to go for it. Think we've seen Mckenna acknowledge that with some of the subs in the past couple of games. Which worked against Hull, but not so much Leicester.
May as well chuck everything at it now, and then if we aren't close with 5 games to go then we can look to the playoffs. Sunderland were in that position last year. They lost their last 5 games of the season and focussed on the playoffs, which worked for them. |  | | |

Eight wins, assuming the rest are defeats, would see us on 88 points which should be enough but will be cutting it a little fine. |
The trouble is all those away games. We’ve only won 6/16 away so far, so we have to improve our away form to stand a chance. We need a minimum of 4 more wins and maybe 5 or 6 from those 7 away games. Southampton and Norwich look very difficult, so on paper we need to be winning the rest starting with tonight. If we don’t win tonight that makes things very hard unless teams around us start to have wobbles again. I suspect the way the fixtures shave landed with a glut of away games is going to be the kicker than means we miss out on top two, but who knows. |  |

That said, we thought Watford, Boro nd Hull were must win games in our run in during the promotion season. But Leeds imploded and we didn't need to win those games.
edit. Interesting stat on the second tier podcast. Last season Burnley went 33 games unbeaten. Leeds went something like 16. The best we have managed all season is six unbeaten. We've also only been in the top to for one match week all season. I accept there have been mitigating circumstances with th postponed game but we aren't looking like a top two side. Must win games are not a literal concept as you're suggesting and its an unrealistic oversimplification to look at it that way. If you're going to wait until you're at the point of needing to win to mathematically keep your hopes alive then realistically, they're already over. Wolves could claim they're very much in the fight to stay up as they can win every remaining game and manage it but you won't find a single person Wolves fan or otherwise thinking they even have a 0.1% chance of staying up.
Whilst it's debatable tonight's game is must win, there's a big argument for it being so. We're playing a mid table side with very little to play for with the context of losing or drawing leaving us 4 or 5 points behind Boro with an extremely difficult set of games to come in April. Which if they beat Charlton then becomes 7 or 8 and even with a game in hand starts to feel they are out of sight.
Got to be 6 pts from the next 2 games for me to at least stay in touch with Boro or ideally overhaul them to give some much needed margin for error in tough games like Southampton and Norwich. I think we'll do it 🤞 [Post edited 10 Mar 18:41]
