Boro Bedwetters 22:52 - Mar 11 with 2992 viewsquad

Out of curiosity, just been on the Boro forum.

If you think we've got a load of bedwetters on here, it's exactly the same on there if not worse.

Some of the comments -

They are never going to get automatic promotion.
They already bottled it back in January.
Moaning about lack of a decent striker.
Moaning about Morgan Whittaker being dogsh*te.
34 shots but could only manage 7 weak efforts on target.
Inability to score against a low block.
Very poor home record will cost them.
Blatant penalty appeal not given and Charlton player should have been sent off. (Ref's fault).

Sound familiar? They're not better than us. We just shot ourselves in the foot by not turning up for the 1st half against Leicester and Stoke.

Boro losing tonight was MASSIVE. Maybe the luck has evened out.

Flip a coin between us, Boro and Millwall. Could go any way.

Yiu think that’s bad, just a month ago Cov fans on Sky Blue talk were calling for Lampard to be sacked and replaced in order to save their season.

This little Ipswich, Boro, Millwall mini league for 2nd is looking fun. All have to play each other.

You would have to say if 1 side can win both of their games that would put them in the ascendancy.

I think we are the team who can raise their game for the big occasion. Did it twice against Coventry.

Especially if Jaden and Nunez are both available.

Yup the return of those two, hopefully soon, feels very important, doesn't it?

Hopefully. We’ve got home advantage as well.

If we assume (perhaps arrogantly) we can beat Wednesday and QPR on the final day, and win them 2, it’s possibly then a case of needing 4 wins from the other 6 I’d wager.

COYB.

Jaden and Nunez back. Boro and Millwall at home. Should be a big advantage and confident we can win both (or at least not lose).

It's the away games at Southampton and Norwich which worry me.

And, dare I say it, wouldn't it be typical if Norwich end up screwing up our chances. They're in good form. Not looking forward to that one.

“Fun” is certainly one way to put it! Stressing the limits of sphincter clenching ability would be another.

I'm having fun. The jeopardy is what makes it exciting. If we were running away with it, it would be enjoyable but not exciting. Remember where we end up and what's coming. The journey more enjoyable than the destination and all that.

I can't lie, I was enraged on Saturday and again last night. But before those horrendous decisions, I enjoyed how we turned things around in the second half of both games. Proper drama.

Middlesbrough faltering tonight just adds to the drama, doesn't it? I don't need us to be perfect for every minute of every game like Football Manager. I cursed Furlong AS HE came out of that challenge because I was shouting "you need to win that."

But these things happen. Meh.

I would 100% rather watch a team challenging at the top, than mid table nothingness. Money doesn't guarantee success, as we've seen with numerous different teams over the years.

Let's get it.

Think Nunez will be back soon but not sure about JP. I wonder why we were looking at qpr winger! Perhaps he’s not back for some time so needed cover

We have been piss poor 3 games in a row now. Yes, we have rallied, but too often the damage is done. This group are mentally weak. Chambers' comments post Stoke game indicated that the team lacks composure. We also lack leadership on the field. Yeah, O'Shea does a lot for charity, kind to his Ma etc etc, but no leader. Combine this with being generally toothless between Akpom, Azon and Hirst then you don't have a recipe for success. The lack of motivation is a concern - McKenna needs to look at himself for that. The current top 3 are the best in this league IMHO. I will have no complaints if those 3 go up. Ashton's recruitment policy has been patchy at best. Trust the process my arse - all him and McKenna trot out are soundbites (we will learn from mistakes blah blah blah!)

34 shots is a lot if they do that most games law of averages suggests they win more often than not. Refused to watch game so can't comment too knowledgably.

That looks like a classic low block match. We sure have seen a few of those this season.

I agree with you except the glaring odd point out, that they lack motivation. I don't see how that's the case, and would be a hell of an indictment on Ashton and McKenna and all the senior management if true. Composure and leadership question marks though? Hell yeh.

We are one dimensional. Too precise and fancy; not enough blood and thunder. Too Prem-like in style and attitude; not enough Championship nous.

When we get going we are nigh on impossible for other teams to live with at this level. The problem here is twofold.

1) We take too long to get going, if at all. This is partly a strategic failing but really it's more the players, their intelligence and ability to adapt quickly in game (or lack of both things).

2) Even when we are in full flow, like at times in the second half at Stoke, we too often lack a clinical finish. This is a recruitment problem.

We had 31 shots at home to Charlton.

Its what they do, low block, super organised, play on the break against a defence that is pushed up high.

'Wall fans have no expectations, so anything is a bonus.

They might have fancied a stab at top six, but to be challenging for automatic is a bonus.

I think you are being a bit harsh on Hirst. The guy was obviously out of form until the last few games.
Azon and Akpom maybe. But in truth when you have a forward line that has mainly relied upon Philogene and Clarke and Hirst,Akpom, Azon, Egeli and McAteer haven't scored as many between them. I discount Burns as he has scored and has only been back a few games.
Squad wise I think too many have under-performed this season. Also many have been inconsistent.
Yet we are still well in the mix.
Truly a strange season. But as was said about our teams in Europe, not one team won a game. A question was put forward about the number of games teams have to play and therefore it is very difficult for players to perform to the level required one game after another.

Not too sure we have home advantage at all, only four fixtures remaining at Portman Road with Middlesbrough and Millwall amongst them, certainly potential to drop points against them with our recent current form.
Birmingham could be another banana skin game too but we should round things off OK with the final game against QPR.
So that leaves six away fixtures with tricky ones at Southampton, an improving Nodge, a solid wall of defence at Charlton and hopefully The Baggies will already be relegated when we play them, fingers crossed we can also put in a decent performance down at Pompey....
