| Massive over the top reaction on here with this Farage visit 12:07 - Mar 24 with 3619 views | IP1Blue | It’s been made very clear that there is no official involvement from ITFC. It was a privately booked tour through Reform, the club was left in a very difficult position. The posts and polls saying TWTD are defending the club is a disgrace and asking Ashton to resign/sacked over this, also outrageous. Would there be outrage and the same posts/polls if this was the greens and Zach Polanski, labour and Kier Starmer, conservatives and Kemi Badenoch? You can’t say we’re inclusive to all and then alienate the party who is leading the polls and are projected to win 50/70 seats in the Suffolk council elections in May. Even if there politics are ones you disagree with and may I add, politics I don’t agree with. I’ve seen posts saying this alienates 60% of the base and if any of them leaders that I mentioned were here, would also alienate 60% of the fan base, it’s no different, only a difference of opinion. The majority of green, labour and reform voters, funnily enough have the same issues - struggling to pay rent, dealing with inflation etc etc but where the issues remain in opinion is by the cause of said issues and also the solution. If you can find common ground in the issues, I can guarantee in 80% of convos with people you can the solution and the cause. All of this is driven by media and divisive politics - if that is how someone absorbs there news then it’s no surprise that is how they view the issues, it’s up to people like us to explain why they’re wrong and how that form of media is biased - help to educate people. Just calling people racist and bigoted will only add fuel to the fire. Here is Gary Stevenson talking about it which sums it up brilliantly - https://shorturl.at/clJXE I’d argue a lot of people on this forum who regularly post about their politics fuel the divisive political discussions on here and rarely engage in constructive debate on all sides of the spectrum. There’s around 6/7 posters on either sides who just call each other names and waiting for either side to make a post before jumping on it and having the same argument over and over again. People have jumped the gun massively here and if people really thought the club was involved in an official capacity, need to give there head a wobble. Do you honestly think a football club would align politically with a party in today’s world especially in an area like Suffolk, where political views are quite split? | | | | |

| Massive over the top reaction on here with this Farage visit on 12:15 - Mar 24 by IP1Blue | Since I made them posts, There are 3 posts calling for Ashtons sacking, Marcus Nash Sacking and even accusing TWTD of supporting the club over this? If you don’t think that’s an overreaction then I don’t know what is? The club has made it clear, there is no official involvement. You can't criticise others for an opinion on the matter and then not accept that others opinion can be critiqued as well. |
There can be no official involvement and the club can still have dropped a massive b0llock -those things aren't mutually exclusive. I don't buy they had no idea any of this was going on but if that is the case it's very concerning and it should be taken seriously, no? Otherwise it seems anyone could book a private tour and use the club's image to spew any bile they feel like? Doesn't seem right to me.

The club have done nothing wrong in the slightest and these people just need to get over themselves and go and find something else to be offended by ! Pansies

You replied with only ‘nonsense’ and have now said that is a reasoned response which is If they’ve gone a private tour and taken photos and videos of a private tour which they have paid for, what do you want the club to honestly do? If they say no to the private tour, then it looks as if they’re taking sides in politics. You have to understand there stuck between a rock and a hard place and were left with not a lot of options! There quite literally polling to win the majority of seats in the May elections in Suffolk, you can’t as an organisation the size of Ipswich Town FC and how much we work with the council ignore that and put your head in the sand about it! Marcus Nash who met them at the gates and the club members involved in his visit must have know that our club would have been used for political gain. It is not an over reaction. Heads should roll or at least a proper apology from the club as its fanbase will be divided and this will hit the national and international news.

The EADT reports exactly what I thought though: ‘The club were not aware of any Reform involvement as the party booked a private tour online without use of Reform or Farage’s name. The shirt was purchased rather than gifted as well.’ I do agree with that last part, but that would of been very difficult to stop because they’ve probably stopped for 2 minutes in total across the tour to do bite size clips and put it together in one big clip. I think the club would have had a very time trying to stop that especially when they didn’t know until late on

| Massive over the top reaction on here with this Farage visit on 13:13 - Mar 24 by waveneyblue | Absolutely this. Watching the most of the board collectively lose their mind over this whilst not surprising, sums up the I'm right/you're wrong narrative thats always here. Even muting the idea that there should be resignations/sacking over this is utterly ludicrous. Whether you love, hate or dont really care about Farage, theres a context to this. A political party visited the club yesterday, not as guests, not specifically invited by the club, they visited. They've used the visit for publicity. The emotional outpouring is way way over the top. Why dont people have the emotional capacity to separate things nowadays ? |
the problem is, it does look like an endorsement based on current footage but time will tell on it

Clubs will take action against individuals or companies using their branding to sell products, create merchandise, or promote their own services without permission. If a social media account is designed to look like an official account, leading fans to believe the club endorses the content, the club can have it shut down to prevent brand confusion. Unauthorised Association: Using club intellectual property to suggest a partnership or sponsorship that does not exist is considered "ambush marketing" and can be restricted. The club 'may' not have stopped the photo's being done, but they could have stopped it all being used online...

| Massive over the top reaction on here with this Farage visit on 13:57 - Mar 24 with 691 views | Matterhorn | The club should be neutral politics & religion wise, you can’t have a text number given out to report racist or homophobic behaviour & then have farage turn up holding up a shirt & wishing us good luck, the club statement is so poor it’s unbelievable, I wonder how this sits with Simon Milton & his team who give sports gear to Africa would farage back that? I think we know the answer to that one, what about the players and staff who don’t fall in line with farages view of what Britain should look like has he got their signature on the shirt without them knowing. In 60 odd years of supporting itfc I’m disgusted with them today, every one knows what farage & reform stand for whether it’s farage getting kicked out of Dulwich college for running around singing nazi songs or jenrick taking down cartoon characters from a children’s centre, it stinks! | | | |

If they booked it under another name to try and hide his involvement, they could have just refunded them and told them where to go. Yes, there'd have been some backlash but not as bad as letting it go ahead. Complete stupidity.

From the posts I have read we seem to have gained more fans than we will lose from this so it’s all good ! If people don’t like it they can always go support another team ultimately

Do you honestly look at our club and think 'yeah, the big problem here is there are too many caring and considerate people'? Why would you think like that? If you have any loved ones, do you look at them and think the same: 'I wish they weren't as nice'. It makes no sense. I can't believe anyone would believe that if they were being truly honest with themselves, rather than parroting attack lines from wherever you get them from. Considerate is good. We should want to be surrounded by more considerate people and fewer toxic and divisive ones.

Same would apply to any political party who asks for a club tour. Epic, epic failure by ITFC. [Post edited 24 Mar 14:24]

Absolutely none of this happened with the clubs approval. Just think for one second, what positive outcome comes out of this for the club? Suffolk generally is politically split - not traditionally a labour or Tory stronghold for long periods of time. We’ve even got a Green Party council! The club would quite clearly not politically align itself with Reform in any official capacity, I don’t think it takes a genius to work that out! It wouldn’t make sense and that’s why I don’t think the club have got any official involvement at all!

You don't think the clubs branding would be used for commercial use without the permission ( Approval ) of the club. If that's the case, then surely the club would be stating this to distance themselves from the video rather than 'no comment'

Woke is now a blanket word used by people to criticise things that they do not comprehend and too lazy to understand. It means nothing but it makes some feel clever by using it to justify their thoughts without thinking too much.

Suffolk has been Tory forever, with the obvious exceptions being Ips itself (always a swing seat), and Waveney (upon occasion). As an outlier, Suffolk Coastal went Labour last time for the first time in living memory, mainly cos Therese Coffey is about as smart as Liz Truss. Fair to say that it's far more likely that the Tories round here will go towards Reform, than not... John Howard, who owns most of Ipswich waterfront, defected last summer, to name one high-profile individual.... https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/25

I think they’re saying ‘no comment’ because they’re preparing their own statement. You’re not going to comment on something and then prepare a statement for something just in case they contradict themselves. I’m not sure on the legalities of using the clubs branding in the photos/videos myself but i don’t think we would be aligning with reform or any political party, it doesn’t make sense for any football club especially Ipswich considering the area it’s in where it’s politically split across the county

It's not about aligning with a party, I don't think anyone believes the club are, it's more that by assisting them it is a form of endorsing the party. I personally think if a statement was forthcoming, it would have made it's way out earlier today, considering useage of PR was already used on their socials yesturday.. But also, they could have replied to earlier news outlets that a statement will be released, rather than no comment. The useage of the clubs branding for commercial use does require approval, that's standard and it's also part of the clubs own policies.
