| Every hour that passes without action makes the owners seem more complicit 08:12 - Mar 27 with 3803 views | LegendofthePhoenix | It's too late for apologies and resignations. Huge damage has been inflicted on ITFC already. The question now becomes "Why are the owners not acting?". It's as clear as day that Ashton, Werhun and Nash should be fired. Failing to do so starts to build the belief that the owners were part of the decision to host Reform. And that belief builds hour by hour whilst nothing happens. The rest of the football world is having a field day with this. Just wait until we play Birmingham, then Norwich away, and all the remaining matches. Because we are going to be getting relentless abuse, chants, nazi salutes, Tifos, you name it. Social media is buzzing with memes about nazi FC, including fake pictures of our beloved manager doing nazi salutes. This will only stop when the owners make it stop. They have to fire those responsible, and make a heartfelt apology for both providing a promotional platform to Reform, and for then lying to us all about it. They need to distance the club from far right associations if they want to begin the process of restoring our reputation. It's going to be a long road, but it starts with the owners and has to start now. | |

The club has essentially allowed itself to be the centre piece for a party political broadcast. That was going to be divisive amongst the fanbase regardless of which party it was. It should never have been allowed to happen, for obvious reasons. Your assertion that only a tiny fraction of people actually care is demonstrably untrue, it has made international news. We now have a situation, at the most important point of the season, where the fan base will be vocally split on political grounds. It will not lend itself to a healthy atmosphere, and will distract from what should be an escape from the stresses of real life for a couple of hours. All of that before you take in to account that we have gifted publicity to the most divisive political party in the country. Farage 10 was hung next to the shirt of our one Albanian International. Given Farage' past comments, how do you think that makes him feel? How do you think our Muslim players feel about their employer being used as a vehicle of promoting such a political party? It doubt it makes them want to put in an extra 10%. These are all negatives for the club caused by a situation that never ever needed to happen. [Post edited 27 Mar 10:29]

| Every hour that passes without action makes the owners seem more complicit on 08:38 - Mar 27 by OldFart71 | Oh dear, seems like the time to bring out the ducking stool. Seems like MA has committed a cardinal sin. Maybe MA has misread a feeling that seems to reverberate amongst some supporters, some of the people in the region and a wider community. But does that really mean MA has made a huge mistake. Whilst Farage in the eyes of most people is a marmite character he is the leader of what has become a leading political party.Whilst some of their policies in the eyes of some are derisory they have many supporters. It might in my mind be a good idea if the club invited members of an opposing party just to show they have no political bias. Which personally I don't believe they have. Whereas I do believe most media outlets such as the beeb, Sky and all daily newspapers have. |
Derisory means small or inadequate Reform plc / Farage has a raft of policies that are vindictive, cruel and will hasten climate collapse He has caused huge economic and social damage with his pet project of Brexit; 6 to 8 % drop in GDP, a 15% reduction in inward investment and a loss of £100 billion a year in economic output Brexit would only be the beginning if Farage was handed the keys to No 10, I'm sure he has many more such doozies line up for us For you to describe his policies as derisory is..... inadequate. Derisory, in fact

"it has made international news." you know how media works? one person throwing their toys out of the pram online can make international news. it's easy for the journalist, all the quotes are there already, it practically writes itself. controversy generates clicks. talking to people here probably tells you more about views in suffolk than the nyt. i've said repeatedly that the club should have a rule that the premises and ip can't be used by political parties. a good outcome would be for that rule to be introduced now.

There'll be all sorts of legal loose ends to tie up, especially (one imagines) regarding any bonus payments to which Ashton may think he's entitled in the event of promotion. Sufficiently lawyering these sorts of things will take time. |
Will sacking Ashton be good PR or bad PR. Do you think sacking him will see no backlash? I’m sure Farage will have a tweet or two about it and he has a massive audience. Maybe there are some great public relations minds here that can tell me differently but I don’t see a good way out of this for the club in the short term. Sorry not specifically asking questions of you ZX just my thoughts and questions on the current situation! [Post edited 27 Mar 9:45]

The players cannot do that in this instance as the club they represent has been used as a vehicle for a specific political party. If Ashton had a private dinner with Farage away from the club it would be none of their business. Instead, he hosted him at their place of work, and the club provided him with merchandise promoting his ambition to become PM.

I have hesitated to post on this issue over the last few days as it is easy to see both sides. However, this has all simply gone too far. The damage done to the UK is not only the fault of Farage as odious as he is. The real declined started many years before under Blair and Brown and exacerbated, reputationally, under Johnson. The figures that folk readily throw around about the cost to the country are so highly debatable when the reality is that it is impossible to measure as there are too many variables. In terms of the wider perspective, I understand the deception element but the action of hosting Reform is a non-issue. If we had hosted the Greens there would not have been this fuss. Zach Polanski is as much a conman as Farage but more dangerous.

The real world includes a lot more besides supporters. Investors which depend on banks and sponsors are critical to the commercial success that underpins the team. They will have an opinion and if the investment model unravels there will be a disastrous impact on ITFC.

I for one am shocked that lowhouse is wilfully misrepresenting what's happened so he can make his usual hackneyed non-points about the state of politics these days. It's not like he does this on every single political thread.

I'm more of a lurker on this board, and while I have by no means read all of your posting activity, I sometimes find it interesting and thought provoking, other times a bit infuriating. Instead of asking "what if" questions, which you no more know the answers to than anyone else on this board, I'd like to hear your own view on what has transpired at the club this week, based on what is in the public domain, and what action you feel the ownership group should take. So far as I can see, the action you have advocated for is that the club should introduce a rule that their premises and ip can't be used by political parties.

I respectfully disagree with your opinions Here I give you my opinions Without Farage and his many iterations of political parties Brexit would not have happened The wellbeing of UK declined sharply as a reult of WW2, which itself was a result of WW1, the costs of both these conflicts snapped our hamstring and we have never recovered You are correct to say that we cannot say with any provable certainty the exact cost of Brexit, Covid, the Ukraine war, this new Gulf war will all have had a negative influence on our fiscal health. However, the figures I have used are widely accepted as realistic.....OBR, Stanford University, Kings College London and many others put them out there. These are estimates, they cannot be anything else. Suffice to say that Brexit has not made UK more prosperous Hosting Reform/Farage is not a " non-issue" Farage is an odious racist, mysogynist, grifting ne'er do well who would happily sell us down the river for a few pieces of gold in his offshore bank account If given the opportunity, Farage will lead us into a very unpleasant place as a country and as a society Your whataboutery of mentioning Polanski is lame
| Every hour that passes without action makes the owners seem more complicit on 10:11 - Mar 27 with 459 views | Pinewoodblue | We have to make sure that Aston’s own goal doesn’t impact on our performance or results. It is important that the people who matter, coaching staff, players and supporters are fully united especially for the next two games , building a platform for a push for promotion. The one major feared I have is that Ashton is stupid enough to use the matchday programme to defend his actions. We can say goodbye to promotion, perhaps to Kieran McKenna and a number of players if he does. Faced with the significant reduction in value of their investment swift action by the owners would almost certainly follow. This is certainly not a normal international break we are far more united as a group. No blood baths, no one kicked off the board( no pun intended). Still another week to go though! | |

To dismiss Ashton there would have to be a reason that would stand up in a tribunal. Then there is the question of replacing him. The company can only function for a limited time without a Chairman and CEO. I doubt that the owners would consider giving both roles to one person again. I am discounting for the moment that Ashton would resign Surely he would have done that already. For us as fans it is frustrating, but I think this could take several days to resolve.
