because its turned into a classic social media style bubble discourse platform, people surround themselves only with people they agree with, block the others that they dont, that reinforces their belief their views or opinions are the better majority held, and any dissenting voice is beyond the pail and must be jumped on to be corrected.
theres a degree also a feature of social media addiction to performative outbursts and the likes button. people get very upset with down votes it seems, but also use it to measure again what the proper & correct opinions to hold are, so youll see alot of posts simply to gather likes from the same group of people who they follow and it becomes completely circular reinforcement.
and then something comes along and its burst our bubble... (kudos if you remember that song ;) ) even just briefly and then pandemonium ensues.
this isnt something thats come about in the last week, its been there for ages, probably years going as you say back to covid, and then before.
the difference is this week its a combination of the football side of the board and the politics side of the board which have always been uneasy bedfellows, but were allowed to continue as they were even though it created alot of the unnecessary friction on the board between people, and the pressure between the two has simply combusted into the mess it is now. |

I'm afraid it's the times we live in. People seem to have become easily offended by almost anything and everything these days. It's like there's some offended gene been implanted in the brain. When of course it's entirely optional to take offence at something or not ( I'm talking verbal " offences " not physical ones ). No one is forced to. Many things are easy to take offence at and rightly so, some aren't, but people choose to. And this very post should bring out a fair number of those! People tell me it's a " woke " thing. Today’s curious information. There was a pillory or stocks at Charing Cross. But Charing Cross was not where it is now. The original cross, made of wood, was constructed in the 13c, one of 12 marking the stop overs of Queen Eleanor’s (Eddy 1’s misses) funeral cortège. It stood on the south side of Trafalgar Square where Charles 1st statue is now.
The cross was destroyed in the Civil War and the current one that sits outside of Charing X station is a Victorian replica or more accurately version. The Victorians liked to ‘upgrade’.
So Matt, as the fruit and dung is hurled at you, just think of the history and the lesson. Jam first, cream second 😃!
