But was up for the battle and a very nice reverse pass for the winner. Thought he should have gone right on the second half breakaway, Clarke always cuts back in that situation.

I thought he played the right ball. Perfectly weighted. Clarke made the wrong decision.

Agree, Clarke just needed to shoot but he predictably slowed down to cut in and meekly lost the ball. As for Hirst, can never fault his effort but his second touch, as they say, is generally a tackle! Lovely little pss for McAteer's winner though. Credit where it's due.

He done the same against Millwall as well when Mehmeti played him in. I’m going to right footer in that situation but nothing wrong with the pass so to speak, just a bit of a predictable outcome.

People have unfortunately just got it into their head and our quick to criticise. I've certainly been guilty of it but today was really good. Those two aren't bad CBs and he gave them a real torrid time. But for a few better decisions he would have been involved in a few cracking goals. That pass to Kasey was a beauty though. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Defenders stood in his path but he wasn't taking any crap from them today; other forwards would have been on their rumps and waving their arms.

People getting on his back after 15/20 minutes of the game, it's embarrassing.

Yes. But move on and get behind the team! I hate the stick some of our 'supporters' give our players. I know it would really motivate me in my job if people kept yelling at me about how shit I was.

He won a fair bit in the air today including a decent header from a corner. In fact, he did the number 9 job very well today. Shielded the ball well, brought others into play, turned his man a number of times, won a number of 50/50s and never gave the central defenders a moment's peace. Linked particularly well with Mehmeti. Also carried the ball well when he had the chance to do so. Yes, a couple of passes went astray, but he more than made up for that with his crucial role in the winning goal. He was more like the Hirst of old today.
| George Hirst best game for a long.long time on 21:57 - Apr 6 with 557 views | farkenhell | Noticeable how the standard dropped considerably when he was replaced. Akpom couldn't seem to retain the ball anything like as well as Hirst. | | | |

Agree, there was an opening for JC to shoot but he cut back in. In these situations we need to get shots away and at least force a rebound.

I think you could fault his effort at one point (although effort might not be the right word, more freezing with lack of confidence) but he seems to be getting back to the all action Hirsty we knew for so long now, and mucho respect to him for doing so. Keep it up lad, keep it up.
