Hope they didn’t throw the book at him, they didn’t state that there was an arrest for pitch encroachment - hopefully got away with the drunk and disorderly one.

Leif doesn't seem to happy about him, 'just joining in with the celebrations' Just because you want to do something doesn't mean you should the other 1,999 fans managed to stay in the stands. https://www.facebook.com/reel/

Ah, thats good. I think it is better to have an Ipswich fan who got too over excited rather than a Norwich fan going to have a go at our players. It looked more like the latter from the footage, so I am glad it wasn't.

| Who was the pitch invader on 08:48 - Apr 13 with 1098 views | Swansea_Blue | Presumably he’s been enjoying the ‘hospitality’, but bans for stuff like this with no intent are farcical. I can understand why Leif wouldn’t want someone grabbing hold of him but there’s no malice by the looks of it, just someone getting carried away and causing no harm. [Post edited 13 Apr 8:49]

Yep, game was over, he was celebrating and threatened no one. But if Norfolk plod prosecute he'll be facing a banning order with little argument that can be put forward. Why authoritarian laws are so backwards. And there will be plenty on here cheer leading a ban too. Wonder if a Rugby league fan behaving the exact same way would get treated the same by the courts? Do they even have banning orders for other sports?

Yes, banning orders occur in rugby, but I think are only a club initiated ban. In football it is more formalised due to mass hooliganism in the 70s and 80s, leading to the Football Spectators Bill. You have to hope that common sense is applied (which is far more common in rugby - football still suffers from the stigma attached to the sport from previous decades).

has rugby league suffered from decades of fan violence and hooliganism? if you compare football since the various law changes were introduced with what went on in the 70s and 80s - in terms of the experience, treatment and safety of all supporters - then the law has achieved an immense improvement. to be effective a law has to draw and enforce a line - any line is to a degree arbitrary. yes, one over-excited guy is not a great problem, but if you don't have the law and next time it's ten, then a hundred, and then fans from both teams, we risk going back to the thuggery and violence of 40 years ago. before the laws fans were controlled with fences. i can't see why anyone would want to risk that. banning orders are now rare, which is a good outcome and a sign that the law and the penalties works.
