If you didn't support Ipswich and was choosing a club to support 22:04 - Apr 16 with 2463 viewsBlacknGoldnBlue

Which club would you choose to support and why?

You can't choose Ipswich but it has to be an English Professional league club.

The question makes zero sense to be honest. Very few consciously choose their club. It just happens.

I couldn't just pick a team and start supporting them. It's why I have no NFL team because I don't care about any of them anywhere near how much I care about Town.

I chose to support Town as that's who my brothers supported. I know others did because it was their closest team, others because of their dads or first ever game.

The love, passion and dedication came afterwards.

I'd toy between Millwall and Newcastle, purely as I went to uni at both and went to watch them. If I had to choose, it'd be Millwall as lived there a year longer than Newcastle and went to watch them more.

I think the OP and J2 are coming at this with cross purposes as such … I get both purpose’s…

I have known many people who have picked a club at an older age when becoming interested in football when previously having no influences or influencers .
There is no hard and fast rule how we end up with our club .. most of course pick them up when very young “and before they know better” influenced by family or location or panini’s stickers.
I personally if not moving to Ipswich as a youngster or choosing at a different age would have probably ended up following my father’s first love Stoke City with a little possibility of Port Vale too .. Liverpool highly likely as they were the ultra successful club at the time of my awakening.

Pity, the one I'd choose ( had a soft spot for them for decades ) is currently playing in National League South. They are fully professional as I understand, that's Torquay. If it has to be PL or EFL, hell of a lot trickier, but this will no doubt raise a few downvotes, Man City. On account of the fact I like the way they play football and are the opposite of the robotic, predictable stuff you get from the majority of teams these days. Off field is of course another kettle of fish, that's not on their players however.

I know you said it has to be a professional club, but I would support a local National League or National League South team.

So many people have binned off professional football because of the greed. I reckon I might join them one day. Plus in National League South you can still have a beer and watch the game.

The closest club to where I lived when I became interested in football, or possibly my father or mother's club.

All those answers are Ipswich, so there's no valid choice involved.

I don't know I would have supported a football team at all.

Ipswich is pretty much entirely because of the family and regional connection - reinforced by the TWTD community. I watch very little of the sport if it doesn't include Town or their players (e.g. RoI national team). More likely to casually watch rugby or cricket, plus used to be very into Formula One.

If anyone, might go to the odd Cheltenham Town game, where I live.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I know by the comments I see that this won't be popular but I'd go for Man Utd.
The reason being when I was a teenager my mate was a big United fan and when we had a kick about he would go in goal and I'd be Charlton to Best to Law and then shoot towards goal and I have had an affinity with them ever since.
My neighbour over the road is a bid Man U fan but as I don't have Sky sports I occasionally go to his and watch a match. But he will never allow me over if Man U are playing anyone as I have been with him in the past and Man U have lost and I got blamed for it.
Yes he's strange, but you either accept that some friends aren't exactly the ticket or you don't.

Probably Spurs, as my first interest in football was Italy 90 world cup, and Gazza and Lineker both played for them. But having said that, my interest in football was only very casual anyway, never had a team really, until our Premier run in 2001. I was living in Scotland at the time and people were talking about it even there. I decided that once I was back in Suffolk I'd start going to games. Which makes me seem like a glory hunter, but they had already been relegated and in financial doo doo *before* I bought my season ticket.

It could have turned out very different - between the impressionable ages of 11 and 13 I was living in Norwich! Thank goodness none of that rubbed off on me.

Oooh great question love this.

For me the obvious answer is Ipswich but ignoring that.

My local club is MK Dons, but... Just no

There's Cobblers up the road and I do have a slight soft spot for them but so bland as a club I couldn't really get passionate about them

Luton nearby and they'd be fun to support but that involves going into Luton regularly so no.

I'd probably go non league and support Brackley Town. Know a few people who have season tickets there and the seem to enjoy it.

As I lived the first 10 years of my life 200 yards from the Valley Stadium it would have to be semi pro team Redditch United
