Ashton 10:34 - Apr 17 with 1961 viewshype313

Normally this time of year when it comes to ST's he does interviews talking about the reasoning's, benefits, future plans etc.

But he has been completely absent, he's all over the media when there is good news or projects being done, but nothing.

Just looks to me like someone who is happy to take the plaudits when things go well, but doesn't have the gravtias to front up when difficult conversations are needed.

What's happened to the Early Bird offer? has that been kyboshed along with points in the club shop that suddenly disappeared.

I'm guessing that he, probably rightly, suspects, he'll also face questions about hosting facists at PR should he do so. He definitely strikes me as bloke who likes to be in charge of an interview's agenda.

Faragegate and 2 seasons of sub par recruitment. I can understand why he wants to hide his face.

I expect Mr Ashton will reappear in the summer to talk about the training ground and sweep the other things under the rug.

Poll: Will Paul Lambert be Ipswich Town manager on the final day of this season ?

The powers above him told him to keep low profile until either we promoted or another season in championship.

He knows there's no need to give it the hard sell - demand is there still, particularly with the potential of promotion. There's a downside to being public and not much upside for him right now.

Hes proven to have lied to the fans, so he's lost trust.

Him coming out with reasons wouldn't help.

Waiting to see how the next few results go I expect. If we're heading for 2nd we'll see plenty of him again.

I dunno, given what I’ve heard in the past week he might be kept away as much as possible. Sounds like the furore has not blown over behind the scenes at all.

I know he's still in discussions with one of our sponsors about it, so its not blown over from that side (heard it from the sponsor side rather than club). It did make me wonder if that's why the ticket prices have gone up so much.

From the owners point of view I do understand why now isn't the right time to act, given we're at the business end of the season. The best thing they could do is let the next couple of weeks run its course and replace him, irrespective of the outcome on the pitch.

Ending the renewal window one day before the last game is a particularly cynical move too if promotion goes to the wire.

To be fair no one should be basing their ST renewal on what division we are in.

Yeah that's clearly by design isn't it. On the flip side plenty of supporters sing about following the Town up or down, so they can back it up now.

I'm more interested in getting clarity on Ashton's future than our league status tbh, the latter isn't a factor in my decision making.

You’d think so.

Given he’s also chairman & a shareholder it was never going to be as straight forward as sacking him.

That, coupled with the fact that some of the OG US investors are very much right-leaning.

When things are going well, you can’t keep Ashton out of the media. Barely heard from him last season and not during the tough times this. He’s a fair weather CEO.

Wasn't early bird stopped for last season's renewals?
In which case, it hardly seem relevant to discuss it a year further down the line?

If he does get canned, mutually agreed or otherwise, he’ll spend the rest of his life wondering why he threw away the best job he ever had, that paid him millions, that allowed him to personally shape and oversee the future of a top 25 club in England, all for a five minute lunch with a shameless grifter charlatan.

I did some number-crunching the other day to see how ticket prices had changed over time.

Although there's no 'Early Bird' price this time, it's very much because there are no new tickets on offer. The prices for 26/27 are still in line with previous EB prices, though, if you apply each previous year's increase to them (if that makes sense?).

It still doesn't justify the inflation-busting increase, but we're still on, effectively, EB terms.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.
