Neil is so far off the pace again 13:54 - Apr 19 with 1907 viewsSwansea_Blue

I feel sorry for him. Surely even Cajuste would be a better option?

Where is Cajuste? Why does he appear to be so far off the first team this season?

Neil flits between passenger and liability. Him and Cajuste are a massive problem in this run of games, we could do with fresh legs in the middle sometimes but neither of them can be trusted in there.

Deemed not physical enough for this league apparently.

I do wonder if there is a clause in the 'to buy' contract which means you can renege based on appearances.

I know people dont like it when you question desire but he does look like that loanee who knows he ain't here in the summer so doesnt care what happens.

I just dont see that high effort level from him

Is definitely a strange situation. I thought he would be bossing this league alongside Azor

I can't for the life of me understand what happened to Cajuste. He hasn't had a good season by his standards but I still felt he's often been very good off the bench at time and made things happen.

I really thought he might play a big role today.

We need to get him back in the side against Charlton and West Brom off the bench for me. Fresh legs and can unlock a door. He can handle the ball better than anyone else in midfield.

I actually think Nunez has been really poor since coming back. No mobility.

Agree.

Which unfortunately speaks to how poor our recruitment was this season. If we don’t go up there will be a few factors as to why but principally it will be down to that I’m afraid.

Just far too few of them have actually given us any kind of net positive contribution on a consistent basis.

I think it must be the appearances clause theory. That game would have suited him well today, with Boro pushing on in the second half.

In the defence of recruitment, Neil played a key part in Sunderland's promotion last season. He looked great against Swansea. Them he started to tail off and hasn't recovered.

Think we’re agreeing with each other.

They have all had good moments, Neil included, but offered nowhere near enough over the full course of the season. Ditto McAteer who seems to have found some form but has also not given us anything like enough this season.

Can't have that. He just isn't that sort of player or person. He's very driven and absolutely loves playing football.

He was 💯 commited going through target. I think he just isn't completely up to speed. He just was undercooked coming in and is trying to build relationships. Very difficult coming on today when the midfield was wide open and it was becoming a bit of a basketball game.

Overall he hasn't had the impact we hoped but still time. There is a player there. Personally would like Cajuste as the sub for Taylor who looked so leggy

He'd been here 3 months, there is no way he should still be "undercooked" or still "trying to build relationships". He's an experienced professional footballer not a young child moving to a new school.

I reckon there's a clause that we will trigger if he plays too many more games because he'd surely be useful in the run in?

I thought Nunez was very good in the first half. Drove forwards with the ball on numerous occasions.

He was poor. Kept receiving the ball. Taking so long with it he kept losing it or passing it away from other town players.

In his defence, this time, some of the players who have been here since the summer of 2024 still seem to be trying to build relationships, so Neil's got no chance after three months.

I have a feeling ( like a few others I've heard mention it ) that there might be something in his, and Chuba Akpoms contracts concerning the amount of games played, re options. Might not be that of course, but it seems plausible given the marked lack of playing time for both.

I get what youre saying but you dont need to build a relationship to get the ball drive forwards and get a shot off or put a player in on goal.

He seems to play but play sideways.

Dare I say it. When he played on his debut he looked like the perfect cm for us. Got th3 ball. Got forward with it. Played different types of balls to players. He looked rewlly promising. But weve not seen anything close to it since.

I've grumbled about Neil a few times, but he has been a hugely disappointing signing. We hoped he could be our Luongo, but he's been more like Rakeem Harper.
