I'm probably in the minority 11:02 - Apr 21 with 2701 viewshype313

But I don't care if we go up or not.

The PL just isn't fun across the board, yes, giving the odd team a bloody nose is fun for an afternoon, but constantly going to games, not wondering if we get a result, wondering what the score will be, became tiresome.

We're never going to get CL, at best you might get a Europa Conference run against some minnow from Estonia, only to then have that derail your league position.

I get it's important for the financial stability of the club, but from a footballing and fan perspective, I'm non plussed by promotion.

I'm the same. I HATED last season. Maybe it would feel different if we did a Sunderland or Leeds. We got the recruitment so, so wrong, but maybe "player dealing" will bring a profit on some of those overall?

The way the players celebrated the Norwich win (group photo in front of the fans especially) make me think that we'd all but achieved it too. So why was I upset that we faltered against Portsmouth if I don't want promotion?

So, I do want promotion, but let's do it right this time please.

I remember when it was called "doing an Ipswich"

The Premier League can be daunting and unforgivable, but it's about getting the right recruitment to handle it. We were miles out of our depth last time but you'd hope lessons have been learned this summer if we can go and get the job done.

From a football and winning point of view ur probably right from a financial point makes a massive difference also no good making the stadium bigger to play Lincoln and that's not been disrespectful. We have to be run better certainly recruitment.

I was against the Super League when it was first raised but I now think it would be the best thing to happen to football in this country. Get rid of the big 4/5 and then have a really competitive premier league

Exactly my thoughts. Let them go and play the other super clubs 6 times a year and spend a billion or so on taking the best players from the Premiership and leave all the rest of the clubs to compete in a competitive league that is entertaining and where you have some hope of being successful.

Same here. It's not football, it's a 9 month sports-themed TV reality show with nothing to look forward to at the end of it. The worst of it, for me at least, is how pathetic the cheating is - anyone remember the state of Cucurella when we played Chelsea, for example? And VAR sucking the last vestiges of in-the-moment joy from it, too.

I rarely watch MOTD and last season was no different. It just means nothing to me, a bit like a rallycross enthusiast not liking F1 I suppose.

None of which is to say that I don't want to see us at the top table and, God forbid, competing like, say Brighton. But if/when that happens, it won't be half as exciting as down in the Championship, which is frustrating.

It seems perfectly, and somewhat sadly possible, to feel in two contrasting minds about it all. What's the point of watching them win tough games in the Championship, and, by extension, challenging near the top, if you don't secure the ultimate prize at stake? On the other hand, if the prize turns out to be the gateway to a slogfest of occasional hard-fought draws, and more than occasional heavy defeats, tempered by somewhat infrequent one goal wins, then the Saturday (and Prem "Super" Sunday of broken transport links and dawn till dusk kick-off timings) lures me, somewhat unwillingly, towards the land of hope against hope, and childlike optimism facing adult disappointment.

It’s all about the money.

I prefer The Championship, but I also understand the idea is to progress through the leagues.

Correct.

I definitely want to see us get promoted, if only for the euphoria of the moment, because that is what being a football fan is all about.

But, much like last time round, I won't especially look forward to playing in the Premier League. Last time round I (being honest) thought we were doomed to struggle, with the double promotion leaving us too big a gulf to bridge, and I'm not sure we're in a much better position this time round with regard to our squad.

That's before you get to all the nonsense around stuff like VAR.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

This isn't a direct dig at you (although it kind of is) but this just shows how little people can cope with a little, dare I say, adversity. I don't think we went into that many games last season wondering how many we'd get beat by.

Gives the impression of "I'm only happy watching football if my team wins more than it loses".

But at the same time, genuinely each to their own. The Championship is great.

I do, Championship is garbage. If you take some beatings in the PL at least you get to see some of the countries and worlds best players. And have a word with Sunderland fans and maybe even some Leeds ones too, if they escape the drop. Sunderland have taken very few " beatings ". that's what good recruitment does for you, even at PL level. I started watching football the season after SIr Alfs team won league division one, (that era's Premier League ). I can tell you for certain, that was one of the greatest shocks in football. I can also tell you, just a season or two after that, I would never even imagined that we'd a decade or so later go on to be one of the very best teams in Europe. No such thing as never, unless you are one of those football clubs with next to zero ambition. Sadly there are quite a few.
