I was happy for them when they won the league, as I'm sure everyone was, and liked they way they played etc.
However in recent years, they've used (legal I know) tricks to get around FFP and points deduction. Its a form of cheating albeit within the rules.

I genuinely feel for them. Money in football is horrible. I much preferred the filbert street days where a single transfer foresight can make a normal season into a great season. As usual the biggest losers are the fans, some who have been going for decades and have no blame in any of this sorry state of affairs. It's always the fans that suffer and the staff at rhe club. The owner obviously doesn't care and the players have their big fat bank balances. |  | | |

We are a society (worldwide, I mean, not just the UK) which worships money, finances, 'wealth', and unsustainable growth above everything.
We set rules which look half-meaningful and then allow the rich to cheat and break them, and then we slap them on the wrist, say "tut-tut" and carry on as usual.
It's a load of bollox. Systems like football, civil society and the whole environment suffer and die while we pretend to be upset, hold expensive enquiries and set new rules.
The rules might be half-arsed, but they're all we've been able to give to ourselves and to the future, pathetic as that may be.
Cheats deserve everything they get when the consequences of their actions do actually come home to roost.

Given their book cooking of recent seasons, it would be on brand.

Their original owner, who died in a helicopter crash, was a shrewd, successful businessman & by all accounts a good owner. His playboy some inherited the £bns & the club & I understand he is more interested in polo & racehorses & the club has been mismanaged under his stewardship. Wouldn't be a shock if he let it go. Football League would apply it to next season if the deduction didn't make any difference to relegation.

In truth many teams are in the doh dah financial wise. The going rate for a slightly above average player seems to be 20 million. For a top class one upwards of 90 million especially a striker.
All these clubs both rely on terrestrial tv rights and being in the Premier League.
Take Spurs for instance. A wonderful, but hugely expensive stadium and players on massive contracts.
Many of these clubs spend a massive amount of money just to stay in the Premier League and a couple of poor seasons can as with Leicester mean you drop two divisions.
I suspect in their case many of their players will be leaving, but they certainly aren't putting themselves in the shop window and some will try and command huge wages. | | | |

But how can you have a wagebill of £150m at this level, how are you negotiating no cut contracts - it's utter negligence.
Just showing once again, football clubs just gamble with their futures, complete failure to operate within their means, pure incompetence.

Yes, we drew 1-1 at Leeds & the result effectively condemned Leeds to relegation, with them needing to win their last game, Hull to lose plus an 8 goal turnaround. So cunning Ken Bates put Leeds into admin a few days before their last game to ensure that the 10 point deduction would apply for 2006-07. However, Leeds failed to agree a CVA with their creditors (largely the Inland Revenue) so Leeds faced expulsion from the Football League. This was denied, but Leeds were given a 15 point deduction for 2007-08. They still did manage to make the play-offs, but this story does have a happy ending - they lost 1-0 to Doncaster in the final .
AS a result of Bates's shenanigans, the Football League changed their rules & any club entering admin after March would have their deduction suspended until the following season. | |

I read something a few days ago that said Spurs have relegation clauses in their contracts.
The one thing Levy did well, was manage finances for his Stadium business with a football team attached.

100% correct, good post. The ownership since Vichai died 8 yeas ago has been chalk and cheese, his son is a classic Nepo baby and has unfortunately surrounded himself with real butt kissers who then have been given responsibility way way beyond their level of competency, see former PE teacher Jon Rudkin who is now inexplicably the most powerful man at the club despite repeated failure in a variety of roles. | |
