Good god he's been some player over the last few games. When Kieran said back in February that he'd been making big strides in training most of us were a bit doubtful if we are honest.

But watching him over the last few games he's now showing a Premier League quality from what I'm seeing. Lets hope he keeps progressing under McKenna.

He was excellent tonight. Tidy, rapid, progressive. Good game for him.

On the flipside, watching Philogene being brushed off the ball recently has reminded me why he isn't Premier League quality.

I think JP had an unusually 'off-it' game tonight. I still think he's a hell of a player, but his feet were all over the place tonight. I don't want to draw longer-term conclusions though because he's been superb this season.

Do you not think that the extra space he'll get in the Prem might be what he needs though?
Not saying it is that, but Cajuste we know can play in the Prem, where as he finds the Championship difficult.

Didn't really work out that way last time. For me the big take home last year was the need for more physicality, which we currently lack.

He barely played for us in the PL.

You can't really form an opinion on such a small sample size in my opinion.

I am not convinced JP is fully fit at the moment. McAteer is doing very, very well now.

Never had even the tiniest doubt. A couple of us were banging the drum for him as far back as last Autumn. Physique, pace, power, and willing to put in the defensive hard yards too. More to come too. I hope those who were giving him dogs abuse a few months back are feeling a little ashamed. Though they've moved on to poor SWE now.

I don't think anyone questioned his physique, pace, power, and willing to put in the defensive hard yards. They questioned his final ball, his composure, and his decision-making, which no matter how one spins it came up short for a £12m-player. He's playing well now but I don't think he can be considered an overall success until his goal contributions increase

I think a huge part of it is confidence - ever since he scored that first goal he’s looked a different player. I think it’s easy to forget how young he is, and what a massive change it must have been moving away from the club he came through the academy at. That price tag really didn’t help either. That goal and getting man of the match has transformed him, looks so good now.

Philogene doesn't do anything with space though. When he has space, he beats his man, then turns backwards and tries to beat him again.

Indeed, not everyone settles in to new surroundings at the same pace. Not everyone has a largish price tag slapped on their head and the immediate expectations that follow from impatient fans either. I knew how good he could be, he's not the finished article yet. He just needed a bit of patience and proper game time on the pitch. Difficult to make an impression when you're sitting down 90% of the time.

SWE is going through that same adjustment right now and copping it from those same people. It's a symptom of modern life. Most people seem to want and expect everything yesterday.

He was ok, but I only remember 1 cross from him that went in a decent area. The others were cut out or he couldn’t find room to put in a cross. I don’t remember him beating his man either. He puts in plenty of running, but he’s nowhere near as dangerous as someone like Wes or even Leif when they’re on form. I hated how he got hammered earlier in the season, but this seems to be going the other way. He was fine and what you’d expect as a minimum: running and positive intentions.

Maybe he didn't beat his man by speed but he seemed to lose possession a lot less and when he came inside I thought he was effective as an extra man. Last few games have been very good.

Always thought he would come good if given time, at one club for years from a kid then big money move isn’t always easy for some.
You can see off the pitch he is a great personality and well liked and now settled and confident he is the athletic winger the club knew they were getting.

Looking a good replacement for USA bound Wes right now.

It does help in that hes being able to play a similar role to wes in that hes getting high and wide and driving with the ball. Earlier in the season. Similar to egeli he was having to come to halfway to receive the ball from furlong and that wasnt really his game back to goal and having to do something from there.

One thing I have noticed tho is hes also making better runs off the ball inwards into space thats definitely from the training ground.

I thought he had a solid and unspectacular night tonight. He is much improved and I think the key ingredient to that is the goals he's got.

He's got a long way to go in terms of passing, control and retention. We're using the qualities he does have running onto the ball in front of him a bit more which is good. More of the Wes runs.

I still though Philogene had a significantly better game at really effecting it. He struggled for the first 20 mins but was very good after this. Setting up the goal, getting us out, tracking back and creating spaces. I thought Furlong was MOTM but Jaden did get the MOTM so surprised people thought he didn't have a good game.

I said before that I really hoped he would learn from Wes once he came back and it certainly looks that way! He has been so much more direct and getting decent balls in to the box. The last two games he has looked identical to him.

I'd love us to keep Wes around for another year, just as an influence to the youngsters if anything.

He’s looked a different player, PL quality - I’m not sure, hopefully we’ll find out!

He's definitely improved, but so have the way we pass the ball to him. He clearly has pace, but same as Burns, thats nullified if he has to turn back facing his own goal to receive the ball, he needs the ball played ahead of him - which we've finally started doing.

Confidence has also changed, he is now taking a gamble here and there trying to make things happen, his goal against Boro the perfect example.
