This is getting beyond a joke now and a huge reflection on the wider society and the danger of social media.

I had a look at the Pink 'Un yesterday and it has gone full on loopy on there. All over shared manipulated images of the incident on Wednesday night and rather than consider that even Nathan Jones said it was a pen, people are choosing to believe the theories and take the choice of the sensationalism angle because it soothes them and makes an easy scapegoat while questioning integrity and professionalism.

Rather than engage brain, see the nuances or the bigger picture, they search for further evidence these bonkers claims can be further substantiated. FB is full of this type of shi1te too and when you close and hide one click or rage bait article, another three appear the next day.

It's funny on one hand and scary as feck on the other.

Yep! It's funny that no one noticed or cared when we were getting a run of terrible decisions costing us points, but are now outraged that we've had a bit of good fortune from them recently. It's a pretty bizarre reaction.

if we do make it, i'm looking forward to the conspiracy theorists moving on to soton's case in the playoffs.

i've noticed that the authorities have given flynn downes a nice 3 game rest, so he can be extra fresh for the playoffs. makes you think!

Not sure which I prefer now.

1) We win our remaining games convincingly by 2 or 3 goals and no help from the refs. Gives the loons no further ammunition.

2) All three games decided by a late soft peno in our favour. Would be funny. But not good for the colour of my undergrollies.

3. Millwall given three ludicrous penalties tonight and they miss them all.

It's crap anyway. The PL as an organisation don't save money, it is just split between the PL clubs instead.

Doesn't stand up to even basic scrutiny.

PGMOL aren't the premier league.

However, on a separate point, while young Phil is clearly ridiculous, I have long since thought that the relative pittance referees get paid does leave them open to corruption - particularly now given that we have premier league clubs which are in effect owned by states and countries.

Don't have to look too far from home to see that this type of thing does actually go on:

We did have similar accusations last time around, didn't we?

Because we had a few late winners, the theory was the refs were allowing added time until Ipswich score. But no parachute payments involved then so not sure what the supposed motivation was meant to be.

Maybe its because of the "algorithms" but this stuff is quite frankly a load of BS.

There's even people saying the CHarlton penalty wasn't a penalty, showing furlong clipping his own legs.....which yes he did after he was fouled!

We've had the called off Blackburn game that had loads of traction too. Is it just social media whirlwinds these things into something?

I remember the deflection fc comments. Lots of rage about our last minute winners and deflected goals leading the narrative that we were lucky and would tail off.

The only way we were lucky last time was that we largely had bad luck in games which we won anyway and good luck at moments that really mattered

Not really, why did the Boro defender wrap his arms around Hurst and only lets go as the ball goes out of play, not at all controversial.

If a defender looks to pull a striker down then he gives the referee a decision to make, the fact this is not always given is a completely different question, we all know how inconsistent referees are, it would be great it that type of foul was always given, but never will be.

Indeed. If there's a curve of how AI tech influences information/disinformation, we're probably already at or over the steepest gradient.

I still hear people talking about regulation and control, as if ethereal data/algorithms or even processing power and Moore's Law can be in some way regulated - even fkn governments talk like this still sometimes, when in reality it's a done deal.

The genie was always going to come out of the bottle eventually, and you can never put the genie back in the bottle. Malicious actors have access to enough power now to destroy truth and the ability to rely on your own eyes. Especially if it's what you've already been programmed to want to believe.

This is the truly mind blowing thing. It’s never been easier to find out things. We have more knowledge at our fingertips than at any other point in human history. It takes literally 20 seconds to find out what happens to parachute payments if a club in receipt of them is promoted. Yet numbnuts here would rather make something up.

The world has always been full of ignorant and stupid people, but there’s less excuse than ever. And yet social media makes it easier for people to broadcast their stupidity.

There's the flip of this too, that in the AI era any legitimate evidence can be dismissed by sceptics: "that's obviously AI" is something I am seeing a lot from those doubting the Artemis mission authenticity, for example.

I'd kill for a run of deflections like that this time round!

One of the problems is that a few loudmouth conspiracy theorists/moaners set the debate, and then although a fair few people try to counter it, the agenda has been set and it becomes a "thing".

Millwall have surely been the "they'll tail off" side this time round. Well done to them. We were relatively unfashionable last time round, and it was obviously ludicrous to us that people assumed we were in a false position purely on the basis that we'd been in league one recently.

I think a lot of us are guilty of assuming that the supposedly big teams will come good. Saints I suppose have shown that the cream can rise, but Leicester haven't half shown that it can go sour too!

As for the Prem trying to save money, that would have to be one hall of a concerted effort to get the "right" result every season. If they /don't/ interfere in a corrupt manner, then some years they will get the most advantageous result and some years not so much. So it's hardly all or nothing. It would be a ridiculous risk just to save a few quid. Also, given that they have so much power, in order to avoid having to be corrupt, they could just structure parachute payments slightly differently so that they have to pay out the same in total regardless of who comes up. Or just take out insurance so that their liability is known and is smoothed out over a period of time.

Anyway, I'm giving it the oxygen of publicity, but basically I hate conspiracy theories. It's startling that so many people believe them without evidence. At least religion admits that it's built on faith rather than logic or demonstrable fact.

It's so ridiculously selective...

A few weeks back we were miles in credit for getting back to back horrendous decisions against us. Those refs didn't get the memo then.

We have had a couple of debatable ones given only and they are debatable not clear mistakes. I'm not sure any decisions we have had would get overturned by VAR. I think all would have stood. Taylor IS fouled at Norwich it's just very soft. Hirst WAS fouled and anywhere on pitch it's given. Charlton one is the most stone wall penalty ever. Norwich fans suggesting his legs weren't clipped have actually lost the plot when it couldn't be anymore clear and he grabbed his shoulder whilst doing it.

Two years ago Leicester got 13 penalties and Leeds got 9. Did they get this sort of nonsense aimed at them by other fans?
