I’m astounded we are where we are in the league and I’m praying for us to get promoted so we can sign some actual football players..

Nowhere near as exciting as 23/24 is it? We really were spoiled with that team. But still, this is where we are and still very likely to go up.

I’m not enjoying it this season. Every match is the same - I get sucked in with the pre-match build up, the excitement builds, I think ‘could this be the one where it all comes together?’, and then we huff and puff our way through an utterly unconvincing performance. Not always, but it seems to be our default setting.

We’re where we are because we can be effective rather than attractive. I suppose that’s fine if the only goal is promotion, but it’s a hard watch for anyone who enjoys watching exciting football. Without the individual quality that money has bought we’d be Donald Ducked, as there isn’t a cohesive team out there.

100% with a bit of luck we’ll have an individual moment of magic, go one up and then see out a squeaky bum time late bombardment from WBA. Everyone will go home happy and well all forget that our play for most of the game was as smooth as a Morris Minor with a blown cylinder.

Uppa Towen!

I love watching us at home, I find our away performances pretty stodgy stuff.

Rest assured we would need 11 new players if we get promoted. I thought 8 but realistically none of these players could play a full season and a full 90+ mins at that level.

It's like we will have a Premier League team and a Championship team in one squad.

As a business we are laughing all the way to the bank, get loads of money to go up, get loads of money to go down, rinse and repeat.

This is why I won't be hugely disappointed if we don't go up. Without a mass squad rebuild on a super-competent scale, with some good luck thrown in, I fear we'd be even more embarrassed every week than we were in our last season in the Prem.

We’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. Go up and we’d be embarrassed every single match, stay in this league and we’d have to rebuild with th player departures (which to be fair wouldn’t be a bad thing, judging by the performances they’ve put in all season)

Agrees. Just said to my dad. We just seem to plod through games sometimes.

We've not had many games were you've thought, wow this team is really good. We just seem effective.

I’d be disappointed based on how close we are to promotion, but I know what you mean. This lot would get destroyed. I’ve not got much confidence in our ability to recruit and KM is worrying me now as he can’t get a tune out of decent players in this league.

Philogene could play 10 mins for lower mid table side.

O'Shea will get there in time.

The rest are at or beyond their level.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

My concern if we stay put would be, haven't we already committed a lot of 26/27 spending on players currently in the building? Those transfers are paid in chunks across players' contracts. Unless we're able to sell some of our more serious "assets" for their book value, the opportunity to build a much more cohesive team will be limited by that. And if we find ourselves here in 26/27 with Spurs, Wolves and Burnley alongside, maybe a resurgent Southampton and Norwich, if neither succeeds themselves this year, the standard required to exit the right way is only going to increase. Don't do it next year and we lose the majority of our income in 27/28 (discounting the volatility of player sales in any given year).

So for the long-term financial health and success of the club, I'm very much in favour of being bashed by the PL rock repeatedly, even if a good outcome next season would be to find more harmony and win a couple more home games than in 24/25! We could at least afford to make more losses on players if intent on clearing books somewhat.

What a downbeat post this is when we find ourselves on the cusp of another huge promotion lol.

I actually think your last point is spot on. Some of these guys just aren’t very good and wouldn’t be anywhere near starting in 23/24.

This will actually be KM’s biggest achievement if he gets these lot up imo.

Frightening how much we’ve spent on some of the guys.

Awful again. The money we spent on these players is mental. Not one is really a PL player.

Its prem prep work

No where near as gungho this season as we were in 23

Much more of our attacks are slow calculated phases of play learned on the training ground. Thats fine thats modern football its just a hard watch when the passes you are trying to make to go through a certain pattern of play gets cut off and youre back to square one and you go again time and time again.

This thread makes me sad to be an Ipswich fan.

Anyone would think we are scraping into the play offs on the back of 3 defeats.

Another reason modern football is sh1t, moronic "fans"

I remember seeing comments on that calling it "over-coached", not enough freedom for players to express themselves, etc.
