Does anyone else find McKenna's comments yesterday worrying? 19:24 - May 3 with 4566 viewsDublinBlue84

He was making comments like saying he is going to enjoy this one before thinking too much about what is next and needs a holiday. It almost sounds like code for having a holiday to think about what is next.

This totally contradicts previous comments in past promotions when I am sure he was saying that the planning for next season starts today and about how much he was looking forward to managing us in the Premier League. Maybe he's just tired though.

Maybe I'm worrying too much but that's exactly what I would say if I was not sure if I was going to be here next year but I didn't want to say it in the heat of the moment and until after the celebration on Monday

From any of the interviews or words I have seen with him, he's not once directly mentioned next season or managing us next year. True he's not said anything to suggest he actively won't be, but part of me is worrying that the change in language suggests they're managing this.

Maybe he’s learned from last time? Also there’s a long time to the start of next season and a World Cup first

Yes, I got that vibe too.

Not so much from the comments about needing a holiday, which is understandable, but the comment about there being lots of difficulties and challenges this season he didn't want to elaborate on.

Also there's been a lot of sighing from him this season throughout interviews and generally looking stressed and coming over as quite down that I can't remember from previous promotion seasons.

Time will tell but whether he does stay or go, he's left us in a great position.

No, doesn't worry me.

"He was making comments like saying he is going to enjoy this one before thinking too much about what is next and needs a holiday. It almost sounds like code for having a holiday to think about what is next."

How is that code, that is pretty much the words he said in a different order?!?

Last time we were promoted he spoke a lot about managing in the Premier League and looking forward to it, yesterday was all about the holiday and what is next for him without directly mentioning managing us being that 'next'

You are overthinking this.

I reckon it is likely he’ll be with us next season … but if he is thinking of his future he’s smart enough not to drop coded messages into interviews in this way

Give the bloke a chance, he's come off a tough relegation season, straight into a very challenging Championship season which has gone the distance and been a hugely difficult last 6 weeks, plus some player challenges through the season.

Maybe he's just knackered physically and mentally and needs a break before he starts talking about what he needs for our PL challenge, not to mention he has probably learned a lot about what to say the about the PL challenge this time around.

It's quite likely he doesn't need to say anything about us, as he just assumes no-one is going to analyze every sentence he speaks withing 24 hours of getting promoted . . . of course it could be [ahem] "code" that he is leaving to take over at Real Madrid, but I doubt it.

To be fair, in 23/24 he did say something like 'give me a break!' when asked about PL plans after promotion. He said let us enjoy this first.

But I do worry too.

It's why the moaners this season have been particularly bloody enraging. The mist important reason to get promoted again was to have a chance of keeping KM.

But if he goes, we must ask just say thank you for everything. The greatest 5 years.

But please God let him stay!

Think he is just thinking about a rest after a big season. Re next season, he did tell me that pre-season will be in Spain, if that's evidence of him looking towards next season.

Probably me worrying about too much then thankfully!

Was hoping that someone was going to find a snippet or something to allay my fears!

No USA tour pre-season? 😮. Guess it being World Cup year might make the logistics a bit tougher than usual. But next year has to be the year, right?! The least our ownership group deserves 😃

Thing is i know he brought his family down from utd. But they've lived here now 5 years. Very settled in the area. Kids schooling. Suffolk seems to suit km and his family.

Perhaps if a London club comes calling he may go perhaps. But other than that I dont think he will go whilst the children are growing up.

People who worry about KMc leaving, should remember that he needs to find a job to walk into. And presumably a job that pays the same or more than his current salary. Any club would also have to pay the £5M compensation or whatever it is.

I can't see him going abroad, so his options are pretty limited. Of the PL clubs needing or possibly needing a new manager this summer, only Fulham is a realistic option IMO as I don't think Palace will be prepared to pay the compo.

Someone who works in football having a holiday at the end of the football season...

You're right to be concerned. Very unusual.

Oh yeah - that paper-round he's always wanted has become available. I'll be gutted to see him leave.

Nope. He looks knackered. Perfectly sensible to enjoy it and then go and have a good holiday and worry about what’s next later.

His stock will rise of course, but I very much doubt he’s got it in his mind to move on. For one thing, I doubt he’s had time to think about anything else over the last few weeks. It’s been relentless.

Bloke is just knackered and in need of a little break. You could see it in his reaction at the final whistle.

I think he means he is going to have a holiday and think about what to do next when he comes back. Cue - every speculation under the sun.

He needs to make the most of his time off with his family and prepare himself for the increasing pressure of next season which he knows will be the biggest challenge of his career. He knows that last season in the prem was free hit, nothing was expected of us and nobody was surprised when we went down. Next season survival at the least will be the goal of the owners, yoyoing won't get the increasing value of their investment they are in it for.

Never forget that on 7th. April 2021, for ITFC, the Game Changed.

I was thinking this after the game yesterday. Going through his options in my head but then remembered their new manager signed on for 5 years. The win tonight helps them as well, that’s a big 3 points they just need to hold it together now.
I can’t think of another club that he would leave for, at a push the only place might be Newcastle as the fans love an ex Ipswich man round the place.

Perhaps, but wondered whether the US might be viewed as a bit of a difficult place to visit at the present time.
