I just enjoy offering a different opinion to the usual bunch on here. You know, the bunch that definitely doesn't exist, or gang together or act in unison. The ones who are just figments of our uneducated minds. I bid you good afternoon sir

So you actively choose to be contrarian and go against popular opinion, but still cry when people disagree with you? That's a whole new level of weird.

| Classy ? on 14:33 - May 5 by MattinLondon | I’m interested in why some posters on here are happy with the verbal abuse of an elderly woman. Maybe happy is too strong a word - are comfortable with it probably is fairer. |
If one is playing devils advocate - the flip side would be that what Ashton has done is nothing worse than happens on the terraces at PR and other Clubs around the world where dogs abuse is the norm to all and sundry. And that maybe the reason why it doesn't bother some. Not saying it's right by the way. Personally, I expect more from those in charge and certainly our CEO. I said at the time of the Farage/ Reform situation that if we got promoted, that situation would be forgotten by and large. Yesterday, on it's own, heat of the moment, possibly drink fuelled, OK, that context - you may be forgiven. But this is two rather significant snafu's that are starting to point to a wider issue. Again, the question I asked those few weeks back. Do we want success at any cost?

I think it's a weird thing for any grown-up to chant in public to be honest and I hate hearing it at football but each to their own.

A total and utter whopper. Blooters, Fungers and others called it at least two years ago, maybe more. Most of us could kind of see it but I for one ignored it. As for Wavers, well Blooters e.g. is in the same camp re not finding the Farage thing an issue but that doesn't all of a sudden means he likes Ashton. Quite the contrary. Yet Wavers has some reactionary reflex to defend Ashton from every criticism by attacking supporters who think the bloke's a knobber (Ashton). He (Wavers) has usually been a thoughtful poster so not sure what the issue is here. Unless... unless... have they ever been seen in the same room together?

I think 'success at any cost' is over egging it a bit, but your underlying point is sound. Ashton isn't 'one of us' is he. He's the CEO and Chairman, and behaves like a plonker. I recal him running high fiving the fans after beating someone sh1t in L1 and thought it was funny and odd in equal measure. As others have remarked, letting someone with such an obviously big ego (ref the stuff from BA) run the day to day to day at the club with impunity isn't great because companies don't work as fiefdoms, simply because you can't possibly hope to attract and/or keep the very best backroom staff. Ashton comes across as a bit of a throwback, not in a good way.

There's pretty clear unambiguous footage of him singing it. The issue is whether that bothers people rather than whether it actually happened.

I'm bothered when I hear it from our fans on the terraces away from home, let alone fro the person running our club. It's an embarrassing song.

I can't say it bothers me massively when I hear it on a terrace, although its not one I enjoy or join in with. Its always felt a bit unsavoury of an 84 year old, who in her defence is underserving any such abuse unless I've missed something she's done. Rightly or wrongly there's a part of me that does enjoy the tribal nature of a football crowd, it adds to the whole thing. It's a good place for people to let loose a bit from life's stresses (within reason) and unsavoury language is often a part of it. I don't think Norwich fans are in any real place to crow about this having recently sung about Nunez dying. There's a difference between things said on a terrace by supporters vs. the Chairman of the club hanging over a balcony getting himself hard over it though. He's representing the club, he'd do well to remember his responsibility. His recent behaviour makes it really clear to me that he's not befitting of that role at this club. I dread to think what the Cobbold's would make of him.

It is actually quite ambiguous. If you look closely, at no point can you see him singing the words. His arm is in the way, then when it's not he's clearly not singing the words. He's clearly loving it and lapping it all up, but from the angle in that video it's not clear he's actually singing it. People will see what they want to see though.

....but not wanting to get involved with the absolutely tedious "back and forth" that will inevitably take over the "football" section of the board all summer, I think the Farage situation was naive at best and fooking stupid and divisive at worst. I do think it was/is an issue. But as you say, I think Ashton is a dickwad anyway so it makes little difference to my longstanding opinion of him. COYFBs!!!!!
