The anti-Championship all stars argument is a fair enough one, and I'm sure we won't be trying excessively to go in that direction this time round.
But that type of signings was in the minority last time round, and the major failures certainly fell into other categories too (players we'd retained did not perform well, Phillips was a let-down, and Muric clearly didn't work out right, whatever you think of him). Furthermore, the Champ all-star signings have turned out to be successful back in the Championship (Philogene, JClarke, Greaves, if not Smodders), and so they have by and large worked out OK, especially the younger ones with potential.
I don't know how true it is that our recruitment last time was as much about looking ahead to being back in the Champ, as it was about trying to stay up. I would hope not. But either way, I can't see us going for as many Champ players this time round. It neither brings certainty nor does it bring value.
I can't see us getting Hackney, but if we can, we certainly should. Azeez is one that I've been impressed by, and we'll just have to trust KMc on, but goodness, he's burned through a lot of right wingers and a fair amount of cash. I suppose it would mean that Egeli is unlikely to play a large part, Burns is likely off, and it'd be between Azeez and McAteer to fight for the spot. Can't see us binning off McAteer unless someone somewhere thinks he's worth more than half of what we paid. And that seems unlikely. |
I mean Bowen, Eze, Olise all played significant amount of minutes in the EFL. So there’s clear talent that comes through, at times elite talent, it just can’t surely be the entire strategy.
Do we think Azeez has the physical attributes and defensive abilities for the PL? That’s a side of his game I haven’t seen much of. | |

How quickly can it realistically be done though? Window opens on June 15th, we're still a month away from that. Are pre-contracts still a thing? |  |

He a big yes from me. Huge upgrade and young enough to develop further. Safe money. I suspect we won’t sign may championship players but he is one I would definitely go for. People need to remember we will look to add 10-12 players this window. There will be a couple from the championship. Maybe a couple of experienced free transfers and I’m sure half a dozen plus from foreign markets. | |

Don’t hate it but just hope we can supplement it good finds on the continent like Leeds and Sunderland found. Everyone mentions Sunderland but also Look at the likes of Anton Stach as an example from Hoffenheim that Leeds got. Really good season behind the striker and recalled to the German national squad recently. Players out there for sure. [Post edited 17 May 18:39]

I really don’t understand the hate for Nixon. He gets a hell of a lot of stuff right on us, and like all journos, he gets stuff wrong at times also. |
My issues with Nixon
1) He gets a lot wrong IMO. Yes he gets stuff right but as much or more wrong. A broken clock right twice a day and all that.
2) He blocked me on X when I quite rightly called him out for something that was wrong. He has done that a lot for people that dare to disagree with him.
3) His whole reaction to the postponement at Ewood Park was embarrassing. He is supposed to be a journalist, he should be impartial in what he posts on his 'official' account as opposed to private views and really should be aware of the laws of the game if he is going to wade in. |  | | |

My assumption is that to be effective in that Millwall team he will have needed to be good at the defensive side of the game too - not a team that carried passengers. |  |

Relieved and happy to see McAteer come good. Very intrigued to see what the plan is for Egeli. Hopefully it can come good for him and us. He looked very awkward during the promotion celebrations. Maybe he’s young and shy and not much of a drinker. Was watching the highlights from Norwich home game.. he had some decent moments. But we need more than moments for an 18m fee! | |

I can't say i've seen tons of him but he does appear to be physically strong enough for the PL.
If he is the first signing, the 'buying only championship players' crowd will get loud i'd imagine. For me we need to look everywhere and dismiss nowhere for our targets and that includes the Champ.
£15-£20m does seem the figure these days for highly sought after top end Champ players doesn't it? |

If our recruitment team including KM truly believe that one or maybe two at most will be comfortably good enough to make the step up, who am I to doubt it? Ogbene deal aged like milk but didn't hate it at the time.
Egeli doesn't look like a right winger at all, hopefully he can be decent at some point.
Mcateer definitely improved as the season went on but still a bit of a silly fee.
Azeez 15-20 seems about right given his output and what he's shown this season but scarily I would still be wanting another right winger as well as him.

Not sure I’d go that far for what we paid. He was 3rd in the pecking order for over half the season and came in and scored a few goals down the stretch. I don’t really see him a PL quality player personally. Guess he will be in the squad, need to spend more wisely.
Not actually convinced SWE has a future at ITFC now we’ve gone up but we shall see. Obviously can’t take an immediate massive loss on him. European loan maybe. [Post edited 17 May 19:43]

Very good Championship player, but a mammoth jump to PL, not sure he’s at that level yet. We’ve cherry picked the Championship best before, they were a long way off the level.

15M with add on’s is where I’d be at. If they want a bidding war let others go for him, I really can’t see oa PL spending more than 20 on him at this stage. Going to have to know when to walk away this summer as well, the PL tax on British players from the champ has burnt us before. | |
