| What’s the earliest you’ve left a football match, and why? on 22:59 - May 17 by Whos_blue | This is the only game I've ever left before the final whistle. I think the 5th went in around the 85th minute. That was me done. |
Had to look it up. April 2003. We had a decent team out except for having Marshall in goal. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/h [Post edited 18 May 1:22]

Me too. I was a lot older than 10 and stayed to the end. At the time, we just did. Even the Charity Shield humiliation we stayed to the end and got laughed at by the Forest fans. Never forgot that and oh the satisfiaction when I was at PR to see them relegated (Clough’s last game - lots of respect for him)

Yeah it was the West Ham one, there was footage of them outside trying to get back in but the doors were closed and not being reopened! They were 2-0 down going into injury time.

Yep I did the same. | |

Woke up at eleven am before a League One game in our promotion season against Cheltenham and just felt off. In the pub before the game (no Tel in those days), I vomited three times in the bogs and then decided to stick to Pepsi. Made it into the ground at 3pm but then chucked again five minutes in (went in the disabled toilets in SBRL) and, with a pounding head and burbling guts, decided I just couldn't so walked up to the train station, was lucky to catch one for Manningtree just after I arrived and was home in the warm with my duvet round me by 3.45pm. It must have been a bad one because I then needed Monday off work as well. First sickie I'd had for three years. We'd been out in Colchester the night before IIRC, and I'd drunk shots as part of some bloody awful game.

Mick McCarthy had only been with us for a few days. We left at 5.0 and as we were walking away from the stadium, heard the cheer as the 6th went in.

I ended up watching this game and several more on the concourse TV in the Pioneer Stand. There were some awful performances around that time. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

They kept invading the pitch and with about 2 minutes left the ref took all the players off the pitch. We had a young sitters and my mother in law with us and they asked if we could go as the Leeds fans were advancing on us. Got back to the coach and the ref brought the players back out for the last two minutes. Thats been the only time home or away I've ever left early

4-1 vs Peterborough was mine as well, saw them go 4-0 up and left at 75. That was a dark dark day. The post match quotes summed up Lambert living in a totally alternative universe whilst we were in complete free fall having won 3 games of the previous 18. Asked about the mood in the dressing room, the Blues boss said: "I've said to the lads that they are four points from the top and there are still 15 games to go. There is a hell of a lot of football to be played. We're going to have the expectancy levels at home. "I said they shouldn't be too downbeat. Be downbeat by today's game, definitely, but you're four points off the top. There's nothing in it and a hell of a lot of games to be played. https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/2

Left in the 75th(ish) minute of a dour 0-0 against Derby in 2011 as I had tickets for Manic Street Preachers at the O2 - a much more entertaining evening! And left a 1-0 home defeat to Colchester in the EFL Trophy very early, still in the first half, as my partner had an emergency - even missed their goal as I was on the concourse to answer her call.

Yeh it has to be worth it in those sort of circumstances, especially in what was probably a meaningless game! This thread has reminded of plenty more occasions that I’ve done it than what I’d noted earlier. I think this season I did it three times. At home to Charlton to get the earlier train, then Wrexham as they scored their fifth and I left on about 85 at Pompey the other week.

Didn't know what day of the week it was by kick off, watched about 25 minutes before we went down to the bar. Surfaced again in time to see the only goal of the game (Lingard I think) and was back at the bar 5 minutes later. Probably saw 30 minutes of football max. Good day though.

I was at that game, and like you, I left when it was 5-0.I thought the day couldn't get any worse football-wise when we went to a Leicester pub, and they were showing Norwich v Man Utd on a huge screen(it was a 5.30 kick off) Anyway, Norwich compounded my overall mood by winning! And showing the gulf in class to us was huge, but how times change!!! Awful day
