Why not?

If we’ve got real ambition for survival, we’ll need some serious quality in 3-4 positions.

Including right sided attack.

I think he tracks back enough for McKenna system. McAteer as understudy.

I get he’s ’out of our league’, but he’s 30 in December. Is he getting a call from a top 6 side?

He may well stay at West Ham but the senior management is a mess.

We afforded Kalvin Phillips, a dud in the end, but that was a statement then.

Plus close to his Essex mansion.

Please feel free to shoot down with abandon.

He'll go somewhere for about 50m+, possibly even a record sale from the Championship.

I'm pretty certain that won't be to us. I'm also pretty certain you know that won't be to us.

Nobody is paying £50m for a 30 year old from a championship side.

He'll be 20-25 max

It makes sense for all those reasons but it imagine wages and length of contract would be the main stumbling block.

I wonder if West Ham might loan him out for a season banking on getting promoted straight back. Saying that, if they did loan him then I’m sure there would be several London clubs ahead of us.

Guess we will have to wait and see what he goes for.

Even if it's 25m it'll be to someone further up the food chain than us.

Seems to value his family network so any move I can’t see being too far from Essex which suits us but I feel like he could end up at Brighton.

He's been linked in the papers to Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea, that might just be his agent but I think he'll have bigger clubs than us after him - our only hope is if he really doesn't want to move...

Put this up there with Foden in the most ridiculous shouts I've seen this summer

I know we're massive but if I saw this on a Coventry or Hull forum I'd think promotion had gone to their heads!

I can see him staying there. By the time the next big tournament comes around he will be 32 so he does not need to get to the prem to maintain his England chance.

If his agent has any sense he will make up lots of fake interest in him and kind of force west ham into offering his last big contract to set him up further for life.

Why not?

For the same reason I haven't yet asked Margot Robie out to dinner.

If we're going West Ham wingers, I think Adama Traore is probably closer to the level we'll be able to attract - Bowen will have offers from well established Prem clubs should he decide to move (and yes, possibly Top 6 with his numbers this season)

An established Premier League will come in for him. If the top six baulk at his age and he wants to stay south then Bournemouth and Brighton will be interested. If he's not worried about Europe then Fulham, plus I can see Palace being a possibility as well (won't know if they're in Europe until Wednesday). Basically teams with deeper pockets and more to offer.

I suppose Sunderland fans never saw Xhaka arriving but this too big a reach IMO.

If you don’t ask you don’t get. It would be well worth trying and he’d be a cracking signing. Not many people would have expected Sunderland to stand a chance of signing Xahka after he’d been a key player in Europe for Leverkusen, albeit he was 32 so a couple of years older than Bowen at the same stage. I suspect he’ll go to a more established PL side or overseas, but it’s worth a go. That’s the level we need to be looking at.

Open goal signing for Spurs really. They need some quality. If not them then someone like Brenford or Palace who are in Europe.

And I genuinely think he would be minded to stay

But they may need to sell him to balance the books

He’s a good dressing room character and another reason why he’d be so good

Good to be ambitious but I don't think we've got any chance.

Feels like a Newcastle or an Everton, or higher even. I know it was Man Utd but Casemiro went for £60 aged 30 (which isn't ancient). Bowen is a well established PL player, a goal scorer and wouldn't have been a million miles away from going to the world cup. He's not going to a team almost guaranteed to be battling relegation.

I'll bet I'm as ambitious as anyone in here, but I suspect JB's salary would be a bit out of our reach, unless he wanted to take a rather large pay cut, which I think most unlikely. I'm with you in thinking big rather than small, but I guess there are limits.
