| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town 12:48 - May 30 with 3764 views | Churchman | The thread on Trevor Whymark prompted this. I know it’s been done before, but what are your top 5 that you’ve seen? For me I saw Crawford play, but don’t remember him so he is left out of my list. 1. Paul Mariner 2. Marcus Stewart 3. Trevor Whymark 4. Alan Brazil 5. David Johnson 1st | | | | |

That I saw: Darren Bent. Better than Marcus Stewart, but latter scored more important/memorable goals. Scoring seemed easy. Anything lobbed over the last defender's shoulder and not too hard was a one-on-one thanks to DB's unfeasible pace.

| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 06:17 - May 31 by Churchman | Did you see them play? Must have been a sight to behold. My dad and his father thought so. |
Yes though Ray was to leave for Wolves in "63 " not so long after I first watched a game at PR the season after we won the 1st Division title. Bad timing, though in my defence I was only 8! As for Ted, well got to watch him for a couple of years, before he left. Phenomenally powerful shot on him. As an aside, some of the players at the time used to use my late uncles home as an escape bolt hole, in a village on the Suffolk/Essex border ( still the family home ). Never did find out exactly what his position was at the club, but he was something! Not unusual to see a few players there when I went with my parents, including the above mentioned. There's little chance of Ray remembering me, but I'd bet he'd remember the place, even if it took a little memory jog. I remember reading something from Jimmy Greaves saying he rated Ray Crawford highly. You don't get greater praise from a fellow striker than that! If they were around today, subject to today's regimes ( training etc ) they'd absolutely tear up the PL!

Very welcome. I wonder if Ray ever wonders what his career would have been like if he was around today. You'd need to bust the bank to buy him! By the way I forgot to add in the original piece that Ray came back here for a 2nd spell, and he was just as lethal! Happy days.

| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 18:14 - May 30 by Pendejo | That i saw... 1. Mariner 2. Brazil 3. Gates 4. Stewart 5. Whymark All based on goals scored at highest level Special mentions Atkinson - so explosive & exciting Marshall Mathie Johnson (2) Murphy's golden few months till McG hot injured |
I'd agree with you there, we've been watching the same amount of time. One I'd mention who wasn't prolific and came in the tail end of his career but I think was important at the time was Paul Goddard. We never saw the best of him as a goalscorer, that had gone, but believe he was a hugely important player in his time here.

I saw him play in his second spell, but I really don’t remember much about him from that time. He was obviously prolific and that Jinny Greaves rated him says it all. One of the club’s great players, undoubtably.

A lot of course depends on what era supporters were/are around in. Those two would easily be my pick of the whole lot. If I had to pick one from the rest, it would have to be Paul Mariner. Truly excellent all round striker.

I love an opinion. My dad who saw them all from 1938 on reckoned Mariner was the best of the lot, closely followed by Ray.

| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 11:59 - Jun 1 with 169 views | peterleeblue | Mariner - although mainly on TV as too young to get to PR Stewart - Goal on his debut at Barnsley - knew we would finally go up as we had the missing piece at that point Brazil - see Mariner Delap - 14 goals in lets face it a poor side that level - He's been rubbish at Chelsea though. Goddard - left field choice but finally under Lyall dragged us out of the late 80's malaise Honourable mention Kiwomya - Only because he represents the time when I could attend often once I passed my driving test. and glad no one as shortlisted Pablo - easily the most overrated Ipswich player in my attending time. All just my opinion of course. | | | |

| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 15:41 - May 30 by waveneyblue | Fun fact. Ian Marshall had a hell of a record for us. 32 goals in 84 games... a lot of those apps in an abysmal team too. |
Such a handful when he was ‘at it’ .., didn’t he score in seven games in the bounce, really good finisher, often wonder how he’d have done in a side higher up. I think we take for granted some of the players that did it for us at the top level in struggling side. Geraint ‘the tank’, Baltacha etc - those three in their pomp would move forward a level right now. Morris at Boro reminds me of Williams, he’s very good at what he does.
