The Makerfield by-election is developing into one of the most bizarre I have ever seen. The seat has been held by Labour since Adam was a boy. The have arugably their best possible candidate. But still the result hinges on the votes split between Reform and Restore. Burnham backtracking like mad to appear a Brexiteer and he is not really going to put up taxes. Nige and Rupert hating each other. (Dont ever leave then alone in the same room) You could not make it up. My vote would be for Count Binface. He seems like the sanest one there.
I think you're massively overestimating the usual far right tactic of announcing constantly on social media how they're going to win the seat vs. the reality.
They bank on people wanting to back a winner, but the problem is it uses loads of bots and cult members to make the noise not actual local people.
The fact that Kenyon seems to be weirder and weirder as well as having told lots of white lies (no pun intended) about who he really is, makes it even more fascinating. Much like Pochin "helping" a convicted fraudster and trying to use it for political gain, they will literally say or do anything they think will get people on side, then double down or ignore it when exposed as nonsense.
I think by-elections are their own thing.... many voters feel free to vote a bit more adventurously knowing that the same party will still be in Government the day after the count.
Therefore a lot of voters use a by-election vote to send a message rather than choose a party to govern
It will be very interesting to see what message is sent, I suspect a fair chunk of the right wing vote will go the the incredibly unpleasant nazis rather than the very unpleasant nazis...a turd-off between the unflushables
A lukewarm campaign by the Greens will possibly allow Burnham, A. to cruise through comfortably and hopefully usher in a new chapter in politics based on PR, reason and enlightenment
I reckon the Labour vote will hold up well as ironically voting for Labour will be a protest vote against the Labour leadership. So no need to switch to the Greens or Reform etc.

Although I'm not holding my breath for the latter
What this whole thread screams to me is the FPTP system does not work anymore. PR must come otherwise it gives a chance for nutters to prevail.

Reform may find by elections harder work, with much more focus on their candidates than national elections, as there are seemingly lots of skeletons in the closet. Or in the case of Goodwin it just highlights how much of a chopper he is.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

They've also been hindered by the fact that Moscow Nige has been hiding from the media ever since the story about his £5M slush fund broke. This has got to be the longest he's gone without appearing on 'Question Time' since 2012.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
Makerfield is the centre of a huge national political by-election! Reform not doing themselves any favours. The Greens seem well off the pace as well.
Labour huge odds on favourites to retain the seat.
Whilst I hope you're right (mostly because of my loathing of Reform, rather than any affection for Burnham or Labour), we've been here before - Brexit being the obvious case in point.
You've got to remember how much in politics is now turned into drama by the media, as that's what sells. And as you correctly say, the Makersfield by-election is an absolute petri-dish of proto-dramas. Burnham's potential return to Westminster and then crossing to Rubicon to No.10, the latest woeful and weird Reform MP, Restore marching into the constituency to ensure lies about immigration and racial pot-stirring is at the heart of everything etc.
And the result is a lack of any sensible political discourse. It's all theatre.

Labour only odds on because Reform vote has been split by Restore. If the reds cant win this one on their own turf with their best bloke then unless the govt change their tack there will be no Labour Party after the next election.
Not my doing. Entirely theirs. To survive they must listen to the voters.
But they wont. They are on a mission to be unelectable for a generation. I take no pleasure in pointing this out. It is just the way it is.
Sign of the times when Carol Vorderman's stinkhole might help decide our next PM.
Wow! That's some take/comment!
It was the idiot who made the ridiculous comment to blame for that and absolutely no one else. Your comment is as if that individual were going to be elected had they not made that comment. What a sad state of affairs if that were the case!

I was going to post similar. There is national scrutiny in a by election. So all the skeletons come out of the cupboard. Labour will have people skimming through his past social media. Which is fair.
“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it........."

I saw a reform candidate from Staffordshire making a post about CV being awarded “rear of the year” a long while back. Therefore she must approve of this sort of thing and owes Kenyon an apology for targeting him because he’s not a lefty!
Burnham had already lost quite a bit of credibility IMO and I want him to do well as no one else can stop Reform.
When politicians start backtracking on things they have said it's obviously just lying to get elected. It makes me wonder what the point is really. Party politics and personal ambition just means they will continue to say whatever it takes to get power and then it will be all about the party as usual.
I've made peace with Reform winning the next GE. I don't want them to. It will completely tear up the repaired relationship with Europe and we'll probably immediately stab Ukraine in the back. It's all really depressing.
None of the above, they are all c***s. It won't stop me watching and laughing from afar. The state of our politicians nowadays. Either way it's going to be fun watching Burnham crash and burn either as failing to win Makerfield, failing to win Labour leadership or screw up being PM.
The Reform Party candidate couldn't answer questions about his party's plans to scrap some workers' rights and the Equality Act.
His inability to answer is part of his appeal. Those who vote for them want an average Joe down the street who tells it as it is. They don't get paid sick pay so why should anyone else? They aren't benefiting personally from equal rights so why should other people?
It is all fed from the sort of jealousy the media hypes up over the lazy poor. And yet none of these outraged voters is so jealous that they go on the dole to live that lifestyle of luxury!

But it does not have to be that way. If this govt starts to listen to what the voters want instead of telling them what the Labour party wants then they have a chance.
A majority of voters going with Reform/Restore in a safe Labour seat has surely got to tell them something. Or are they just stupid ? Dont answer that. It may be too painful.

I guess afar is abroad because looking forward to enjoying that you must hate this country.
