From the Talksport story, which can only come from one place... 15:49 - Jun 9 with 6321 viewsitfcjoe

....it seems as though McKenna is attempting to flutter his eye lashes at Fulham and is very interested in the job.

Hopefully they can find a free agent to take the job quickly, so the vacancy is filled and we can move on with next season.

If he does go, really hard to see good candidates out there to carry it on - sure Ashton will have his list of targets. This time 2 years ago the only name really mentioned and seen as who we'd go for if McK left was Rob Edwards.

Hmm, but the fact that McKenna is fluttering his eyelashes tells you he wants out.

So even if they go for someone cheaper, we're left with someone who wants a better gig.

If he were to go I'd like to think that we'd go after Kim Hellberg from Boro.

I'm not sure Fulham are that interested in it being quick and so probably hold more cards in that regard (maybe wait for the WC to end and see if Pochettino or someone comes up or force our hand a bit on the compensation).

Either way it is not good for us to have this rubbish being fed to the press from his side.

Via his agent, either fluttering his eyelashes at Fulham now or angling for a more favourable deal here? More money and a cheaper release clause for next summer?

It's not really about carrying it on, it's about making the club something it's not been for a long while, a stable top level football club

If KM goes, so will many of his staff. We need to replace half the squad maybe more anyway, So it's not really about carrying on, it's about getting started

For us to get started, we need him gone asap or to commit to staying and get cracking.

KM will he won't he hurt out transfer work the last summer we were in the prem, we can't affort another summer of it.

Not sure his capitulation from front runner in the league to complete collapse has helped his stock.

Ashton has his list of targets?

I thought he was getting sacked this summer.

Maybe we need him a little while longer.

They were a much better team once he took over from Edwards.

If you look at their metrics from Christmas onwards they should have absolutely strolled to automatic promotion, they just had a bunch of carthorses that couldn't finish their dinner majority of the time.

If he does go i would be looking at Lee Carsley his England chances seem to have been stumped with the FA going down the Tuchel route so may be open to a premier league job. Plays good football and has been looking at the best of young talent for the last few years.

This story from Belfast Telegraph is a bit worrying. Hopefully they just regurgitating stories from elsewhere rather then being genuinely in the know

On the candidates point, it depends how wide we cast our net. As a PL club I think you could get virtually anyone not currently coaching a team in the European spots of one of the top European leagues. And even then, some of those may be tempted.

The same was happening 2 summers ago, he ended up staying but the stories were the same - I'd have zero doubt if he does end up staying he'd be any less committed or serious or engaged as he has been for the last 4.5 years so it's not a worry for me.

Yep, a PL job is massively attractive - the best league in the world and only 20 jobs exist in it so everyone wants it in reality - just look at potential lists for Fulham and Palace and nothing particularly inspires me

Fair enough, I do wonder if 2 summers ago he was angling for a better contract, which turned out to be true when the US guys came over and gave him a significant payrise.

I get the impression (if he is fluttering his eyes) that he wants a fresh challenge this time around.

How do we know there are no good candidates though?

No one had heard of Le Bris or Jakirović, but guess that doesn't fit "the model".

I was all for Thomas Frank should the worst happen but the fact that he doesn't want a job this summer is slightly concerning when looking at the links elsewhere.

We don't, am only saying there isn't any that look particularly inspired to me - no one knows what the "the model" is here for manager recruitment because the only time we've ever done it we were a L1 club so any previous evidence isn't particularly relevant

Ashton during our PL season on Talksport did outline for both managerial and player recruitment. Think it was just after the spurs game. Hopefully that has evolved since.

Agree with this.

I hope/doubt the new manager will be from one of the mentioned candidates.

I would love something in the mould of the Brighton coach, who was so out of left field that I can't even recall his name to write here now!

My personal dislike for Ashton aside, I am pretty convinced somebody as hands on as him will have already identified targets and have been in dialogue.

Not really a surprise - it's exactly what he did two season ago. Like you said, really isn't any good candidates out there so it would not be ideal

Not sure why you have so many downvotes. Of the domestic candidates (those who are British or recently managed in Britain) he would be high on my list.

Aside from him walking on to the pitch and putting the ball in the net himself I dont think there was much he could have done to make Boro a better team in that run in. Just looking at a 5 game run they had XGs of 2.30 2.72 2.98 1.22 2.69. They won 0 of those games. Great news obviously as it left the door open for us but from a neutral stance not sure what more Hellberg really could’ve done in those games. Seems a good character too.

Id much rather McKenna stay. But if the options were like Rosenior, Parker. O'Neil etc. I would take Hellberg all day.

There are loads of successful coaches come into the league that quite a few people have not heard of though that have a decent name in their home country, would be a risk at PL level rather than champ level to hire a European unknown maybe but I'd prefer it over some of the English names banded about.

Le Bris career before Sunderland for example...
