Starmer set to resign on Monday on 08:45 - Jun 21 by redrickstuhaart

That's clearly not the case.

That's going to be the next silly narrative is it?

It's absolutely the case.

Josh Simons stepped aside for him FFS! Alarm bells going straight away.

It's the Labour right. They are just repeating the same trick they did with Starmer - presenting Burnham as someone new.

He's not the answer and everyone knows it but it's all they've got.

Vibes aren't enough. Policies, policies, policies!

Burnham is a slightly more charismatic Starmer. He also lost two previous leadership elections for a reason.

If you dig into Manchesterism, there isn't anything there.

Look at who he has appointed as economic advisors.

This is the last (again) roll of the dice of the old system. Burnham winning in Makerfield and being crowned is the best thing that could have happened for Reform unfortunately.

Burnham is clearly different. A different character, arguably more charismatic and significantly further to the left on a number of issues.

He wants PR. He is already talking about nationalisations.

Why would you be undermining him already (and thereby helping Farage)?

Being slightly more charismatic and liking chips and gravy etc isn't really enough when faced with the task in hand.

You're going to be very disappointed if you think he's 'signifiantly' to the left.

He's talking about public control now than nationalisation.

He has to make very big decisions to be a success and instead we'll get more triangulation.

It's also pretty poor that there won't be a proper leadership contest or debate and that this sets the precedent that an MP can resign to replace the country's PM!

Everything is style over substance. We need a debate and instead we're going to get 'he's got the common touch and seems like a nice guy'.

Nope I'm not.

Meeting him and thinking he's a nice bloke doesn't mean he's qualified to lead the country in a crisis.

He's a career politician. There's a reason why he lost two leadership elections.

Vibes aren't enough.

Who said I thought he “was a nice bloke”? Parroting your corbynite lines from social media makes you no different to the Reform lot on here.

As someone who has seen his work as mayor, met him more than once and worked with his office I’ve got a pretty good measure of his manner and faults. You’re just clipping together insta posts from the Canary et al

Corbyn derangement syndrome. He's not been leader for 6 years.

Forgive me for being cynical, but 'forensic' competency and 'grown up' politics was what we were promised with Starmer, was it not? If you're a fan of this New Labour cosplaying then presumably you subscribed to that view at the time?

So is your judgement on Burnham similarly sound?

And then people will get bored of Burnham when things are not immediately fixed and we'll get rid of him too.

Hot off the press “he will respect the manifesto” and “stick to the fiscal rules”.

Just with gravy.

Again, you don’t read or comprehend too well. Your viewpoint is entirely second hand and cobbled together from corbynite media. The left wing criticisms of Burnham almost all come from those who can’t get over the fact JC failed.

You can deny that all you like, but you’re absolutely clueless here and your arrogance only illustrates the point.

One of the things which means he might be a great PM is his ability to separate his own beliefs and his “live and let live” approach to things he doesn’t agree with. You’d know that, if you knew the man and his work as well he claims.

If Burnham becomes PM, he will be the second Everton-supporting PM in the West after Mark Carney.

You're obsessed with Corbyn!

He's not been leader for 6 years. He's not in the party.

Bizarre.

So were my criticisms of Starmer totally unfounded? Clueless?

Burnham is a career politician who has significant weaknesses. This isn't a mayoralty. It's PM during a period of crisis.

They are clearly different. And the common touch is what is actually needed, because in this age of social media and misinformation, Starmer's actual actions seem to have no bearing on what people think about him. Regrettably.

I am no fan of Burnham. Not my style at all. But then I have never voted labour in my life.

Incredible that there is still a refusal to acknowledge the truth of the Starmer (McSweeney) project.

It sounds very much there as if you think Starmer has done a sound job but is a victim of social media hysteria... You're entitled to that view of course but from my perspective it is mental.

Burnham is no different. He's from the same sect of the party!

I have a friend with a simialr stance to yours- he posts facebook memes against Starmer all the time, but from a hard left perspective. It contributes to undermining the government and its reputation. Which helps farage. There is no real prospect currently of getting something more left than labour.

Why do you think Starmer is the least popular PM for decades? Best 3 reasons? (NB most people are not against him for not being left enough...)

'There is no prospect of getting something more left than Labour'

Come on. Do you think this government has been even centrist?!!! It's right wing!

The public aren't stupid. They know that Starmer was a duplicitous figure from the start and they didn't much want what he was selling . Being told that should didn't go down well.

Starmer is the driver sat at the front of the DLR remember? He thinks he's driving but he's not.

No principles, ideology or plan. Just vibes.

You dont address what I said at all.

You come from this "Starmer didnt follow through on his promises to the left" viewpoint, which is not one the vast majority of the electorate have even considered.

He's a dud. You know it, I know it, everyone bar a small group of professional managerial types who think watching the News Agents keeps them well informed, know it. (And even they maybe know it now...)

I don't understand why you are desperately trying to defend him. Just admit you got it wrong!

He's a leader without any principles or beliefs.

I despise what Thatcher did but at least she believed in it!

Burnham winning in Makerfield and being crowned is the best thing that could have happened for Reform unfortunately.

you've got your party - they reflect where you are politically. labour doesn't. so, get out there, knock on doors, and dream of power.
