Should make people stop saying that this was the lazy, or easy option.

Well might be fairer to say a known quantity etc

Expensive can still be easy / lazy.

For clarity, I'm not one of those saying it was.

Yeah, but terms were agreed with O’Neill so why did it take so long?

A very big investment. The same as a 25m signing on a 5-year deal in the accounts?

No it shows that was a f***ing stupid option. €5m is a ridiculous amount for a manager with a CV.that doesn't exactly scream success.

If he keeps us up 5 million will be a bargain

Only for the first year. A 25m player on a 5 year contract costs you 5m every year of that contract. Really hoping GON does well enough that we get to see him in his second season when his cost is £0.

If anywhere near true I would imagine it’ll be hugely performance related! If GON keeps us up he’ll deserve it!

To be fair, theres probably a big annual saving on KM's wage.

If it is €5m and he is on a three-year contract, then we will amortise @ €1.67m (£1.5m, roughly) a year.

Why? Also seems a bit wasteful tbh.

£4.3M, nothing in the overall money coming in from the PL, and if KM changes his mind and does move to another club later in the season his compensation will wipe that out.

I don't think you are allowed to amortise fees for managers. They aren't tradeable "assets" in the same way as player registrations.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Well I suppose that was EUR, in Sterling he was a mere 4.3m lol.

Chunky release fee that, fingers crossed he delivers. At least we didn’t go for someone cheap and perennially unemployed like Russell Martin ..

Not sure I’d be touting this as a positive. That’s a very high level of compensation to be paying for a manager, we know it’s not comparable to signing players. Surprised we’ve paid that level of money to be completely honest

If, as seems likely, McKenna takes a job at some stage, the suggestion is that we will get £8 million, so we will make a profit on the deal.

When you say 'doesn't exactly scream success', what does that mean? Success in the forthcoming season will be avoiding relegation. O'Neil has done that twice with teams either newly promoted (like us) or struggling.

Have they mentioned salary? Hopefully it’s a reduction on Kieran’s - that was £3M / year wasn’t it?

I presume it was the negotiations over who he brings with him from Strasbourg and who he keeps amongst McKenna's management team.

As an aside , Critchley is a curious character, I remember his post match interviews on 'Sportscene' during his six months in charge of Hearts, he seemed the least ego and most id manager possible.

I thought that was only binding for the 12 months following his resignation, so would expect he’d sit it out to be a free agent?

Why hopefully a reduction? If we want a decent manager with a reasonable degree of commitment and loyalty, its going to cost. Doubly so as we're not yet an established Prem club.
