Geekiest app you have on your phone? 18:31 - Jul 12 with 2420 viewsBelsteadCav

I’ve got 2 which are a bit Geeky

1. The Merlin bird ID. If you can’t see the bird but can hear it, the app will listen to its song and tell you what it is.

2. Star Walk. Hold it up in the nights sky and it will tell you what the stars, Planets and Constellations are.

Can I be out geeked

nRF Connect - for scanning and reviewing BLE (Bluetooth low energy) devices.

That's probably the nerdiest followed by WiFiAnalyser for helping identifying issues when people inevitably ask why their wifi is slow

I guess the saddest is Flightradar. It does as the title says, tracks flights. Rarely used.

I have plenty of apps, but they tend to be things like rail companies, car, travel companies NHS and day to day sort of stuff. Rarely used, of course.

In what way is that the saddest ?

I actually subscribe to flightradar, its great I can sit in my garden hear or spot a plane and go aha thats the flight to Luton or Stansted. Its ideal also if you're waiting around for the Red Arrows Flypast as you can watch where they are.

Id say geekiest app ive got is one for controlling my bike lights. Instead of using the buttons on the light, you can use an app on your phone instead. Completely pointless :) originally it was meant to track potholes by using an accelerometer in the light and linked with the phone produce a geo map of routes and poor roads, they just added light control as a feature

Now thats a geeky app.

1. Skyview lite (stars/planets/satellites etc)
2. Rally tripmeter, which measures distance between road junctions
3. Earvision - which enables my phone to connect to a thing that i put inside my ear to see how much wax is in there

Flight Radar and Marine Traffic, but I thought a lot of people have those, and so this thread shows.

I’ve also go the Telescore app which shows all the football news / scores in teletext form.

And the standard that geeks are measured by; the TrainSpotting app.

Those are both apps I would like!

On my phone, probably Plantnet which identities plants from a photo. I know Google can do that too.

Plantnet and Merlin are the two I use a lot.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

I have the Warhammer 40K and Age of Sigmar apps on my phone - I can't imagine it gets much geekier to be honest.

Those two are fantastic. I thought everyone had them, although my night sky one is Stellarium.

And Signalbox for trains as well as Marine Traffic and Flightradar.
