I think they have been underestimated, but France have been terrible, it doesn't help that 2 or 3 of their forwards don't press at all, and that massively plays into the way Spain want to play.
I am not for a second taking for granted our semi final tomorrow, but I do think if we get to the final England are a better matchup for Spain than France are. We press/defend with our forwards far better than France. Also Yamal has had a lot of success against Digne who is a weak link in the French defence, I don't know if he would do as well against O'Reilly who I think has had a really good tournament. Also if fit our central midfield of Rice and Anderson should do a better job of limiting the space Olmo had in that pocket where he did so much good work from today. [Post edited 14 Jul 22:03]

Agreed in short Spain did a number on France. Made France look clueless apart from some individual flair. But lets be fair Spain beat France all ends up and could have scored more.

Just as almost everyone has been saying France would be the winners since the tournament started. Spain turned up, France didn't. Only one winner of a contest like that. I will hold my hand up here and say I'm a great fan of the way they play. Simple football ( pass and move ) done at the highest level, with some flair added in for good measure. My kind of football. Think in reality this is as good a shot as England are going to have at winning a major tournament.
Spain are so so, Baena, Olmo and Oyarzabal are all fairly middling forwards, Lamine Yamal still doesn't look 100% to me. France got schooled tactically but that's equal parts that Deschamps is a fraud, the game state suiting them after the extremely fortunate penalty, France's main flaw (poor centre midfield) being a good matchup for Spain's main strength (Rodri and Ruiz).
It's not a vintage Spain side at all and one performance doesn't change that for me. |  |
