Would be a real statement signing.

That'll be where the Philogene money is going, and I'm 100% here for it!

Indeed.
Although, I've seen figures of £50m mentioned, closer to £20m I'd have said.

25m likely to be pre world cup though.

I wasn’t keen after the World Cup. In a team where he was the magic amongst underdogs etc I thought that was a good parallel for next season. He seemed to give the ball away a lot and not always contribute.

I’m starting to change my mind a bit if it’s philogene going and we can invest that money in him and a central midfield tank

That's how I felt about him at Ipswich - then throw into the mix that he was shooting from stupid positions, allllll the time- appeared to flatter to deceive for me. So much better out there for the money!

Would it? Decent player in a mid table French team who was deemed surplus to requirements at Brighton. He'd be a decent signing but people love to go overboard on us signing average players.
Him and Fatawu in the same team, I don't think we'd see a single pass in the final third... but lots of shots from 25 yards!

Yep. I don't think we have the luxury of being able to play Fatawu and Enciso in the same XI as a relegation-battling side.

If we are interested in staying in Premier league, we need to keep philogene and get him in, not fund his transfer with a sale.

I can’t see us ever signing someone like him 🙃

Yeah, I’m up for that. We can only really have one player like him in the side though. Very much a selfish luxury player (in a good way, as he can be a game changer).

Very Gary O'Neil like though. If he's minded to go with this 3-4-2-1 I think we'll want to see the pace and creativity in those forward areas. I'm not saying he's in the same league but he might be viewing Enciso as our Cunha. Something like:

Scherpen
O'Shea - Diop - Greaves
? - ? - ? - Davis
Fatawu Maeda
Enciso

Emersonn as an alternative in the 9 for more physicality, with Enciso an option behind. Clarke and / or Philogene if he stays will have a role to play too.

That's an annoyingly good point - I really don't want to spend the next season getting frustrated at Enciso, that few months was enough.

Tho that would leave us with no defensive midfield. Very hard work for the CBs and goalie.

I wouldn't suggest playing actual question marks, I'd hope they're replaced with players.

I hear you re. Cunha/Enciso comparisons. Both maverick types. But does Enciso really have it in him to lead the line? Would we be guilty of trying to be too cute with our system/approach by using false 9s at this stage in our PL journey?

Fun though, innit. His pot shots into the upper Churchman's will all feel worth it when he nails a late consolation in the top corner against Liverpool.

He just didn't quite fit at Brighton.

He's the type of player you need to build a team around, similar to Grealish etc

We can do that and if he did come I'd be confident we can get a lot out of him.

I'm of the Kevin Phillips school of being a striker- yes, you can shoot from anywhere and regularly, but you've got to hit the target.

It'll be horses for courses I think, with Emersonn (Hirst too) as more physical and conventional 9's, but an alternative profile in an Enciso type.

Thinking back to his Wolves side before they went to shit, he often went with a back 3 with the wingbacks. Ait-Nouri and Semedo left and right respectively in those roles, I think it suits Leif but don't think we've got the right covered yet. Lemina and Gomes as the 2 in the CM, we're nowhere near that as it stands and its the most glaring hole we have. The front 3 was pretty fluid, with Cunha and Hwang as the mainstays. I think with Enciso we'd have similar depth and profiles in attacking areas. Big question marks still remain in CM, 2 additions I'd guess that we absolutely have to a) get right and b) keep available.

He's significantly better than any player we have, so it's an absolute yes from me.

I don’t think we’re playing 5 at the back as people seem to be suggesting - not once done it this pre season

I'm here for this, we need some players with real on the ball quality. I could see him really thriving in the 10, behind Emersonn, making runs and benefitting from knock downs. Fatawu and Maeda either side, we'd be so much potent than last time around.

Absolutely this … felt he was very much playing for himself, rather than the team at the time, which, as you say was fairly evident with some of his decision making and shooting.

That said, wouldn’t be against him here, especially if a permanent deal and having worked under GON before, might be a bit of a master stroke signing. Big man, little man combo up top with Emersonn.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…
