I think the vote will be pushed back to happen after the FIFA annual conference that votes whether to re-elect Infantino as President.
He'll know beforehand if he has the votes and will say/do whatever he can to hold onto his job.
This whole episode is straight out of the Trump playbook. Throw out an outrageous idea and see what the pushback is. Infantino has definitely been put up to this by his new best pal Trump.

My fear was that Infantino would have the proposal voted for by secret ballot, therefore how individual members voted would be hidden. However, checking FIFA statutes, only elections can be by secret ballot - all other voting must be open.
This doesn’t stop individual members counties from voting differently than their federation’s declared position, but it does open them to scrutiny by other member counties, and the people of their own country.
Ultimately the greatest leverage will come from UEFA boycotting competitions - if they go through with that, it is likely the end of FIFA as we know it. This will all likely end in a compromise, and it will be the detail of that compromise that will matter - including Infantino’s (although I’m sure his re-election support will have dropped - but that still needs a credible candidate to stand against him to be identified) | | | |

The head of FIFA doesn't really make much difference. The problem is the inherent corruption in an organisation with 211 members with equal voting rights, especially as many of them are very poor.
Havelange was cunning enough to get old fashioned Rous voted out (not surprising there wasn't much love for Rous) & since then we've had Bloater, who beat the decent Lennart Johansson through dubious tactics & then was an immovable object before we got Infantino. FIFA might come up with a scheme to produce a saintly successor, but I would be very suspicious as the whole organisation needs root & branch reform. | |

With anyone else, or in any other organisation, you'd have thought at this point it would make their position untenable.
What he's actually done, unintended consequences over and above his own actions, is pull the cover off Fifa and expose its corruption + not fit for purpose status.
