| Written off - And I like it 10:30 - Aug 8 with 3852 views | Cheltenham_Blue | We've been written off by everyone, big six fans, middle 10 fans and bottom 3 fans. Sunderland fans think they'll have no problem getting a result in a fortnight even without better players coming in, United fans think they don't need to rush to get signings, because they are playing Hull and us first. Most people seem to have us finishing bottom or 19th. Meanwhile we've been quietly building a squad with international and champions league experience in it. It's got shades of 2000/01. I like it | |

I'm going to enjoy the journey, the signings and seeing what we can do. Will try not to get to down if it goes the same way as last time but it's hard. We have been in different divisions each season for what 5 now! So a rebuild every single year. Everyone will lose their minds that it WILL take a bit of time to gel. Sometimes it can click faster than others (like Sunderland). I agree I like us being written off though. Let's see. [Post edited 8 Aug 12:39]

The athletes we have in the team already and the get about the pitch athletes puts us in a better position. My only concern is, do with have the fire power up top to cause teams problems. So far the window has produced a good baseline to work from and i happy also others are under estimating us. [Post edited 8 Aug 12:57]

Iām going in with the expectation of relegation, so that way it wonāt be as disappointing. I do hope we give it a proper go this time and show a bit of mettle.

I think a new manager coming in helps. Feels like a fresh start, focus on the squad and what it takes to win. I think Iām more excited than in 24-25 weirdly. Loved McKenna but am hopeful that GON brings something new and different. Itās the hope that kills!!

What is slightly amusing me is the trendy view that Coventry will survive and us and Hull may as well not bother turning up without actually basing it on anything.

Will hopefully have closed that gap somewhat come the end of August of course.

I've seen an awful lot of suggestions that the bottom of the table will be this: 18. Any of Sunderland, Newcastle or Fulham 19. Coventry 20. Ipswich How on earth do you conclude Hull are most likely to survive?

Everything points in the right direction apart from imvho GON who I am very unconvinced by.

We beat Coventry 5-0 on aggregate and Hull 3-0 taking 12 points. We are a better team now than then. But feels eh?

Just don't get it. We had the stronger squad last season as they all said and we underperformed in reality. Coventry were very gun-ho and it worked then but we know it won't work in the PL. Yes they had goals last season, but same as us when promoted that doesn't translate to PL goals. A couple of injuries to big new signings and they are in real trouble. Hull scrapped into play-offs and did really well but they're squad is/was so much worse than us and Cov. They had a crazy high conversion rate of chances and as now up against PL defenders and chances so much fewer chances. I just don't get where all the optimism is for them. We are making solid signings with experience this time, we are lacking a couple of really strong goal threats to be taken seriously for staying up IMO.

We had four games against those last season. The results speak for themselves. Pundits and predictions? Other clubs? Other fans including Sunderlandās mob and the prawn sandwich brigade at Man U? I couldnāt give a monkeys. Donāt care. Not worth a second thought. Any of them. We know what we are and unlike last time, know what the challenge is. Of course itās tough and likely to be odds against. But itās up to us. So Mr Sutton, Mackems and the rest of them - do one šš»

I think it partly speaks to the volume of opinions online, which must be into the many millions. One social media user collating all that info is challenging but I wouldn't expect findings to differ so greatly from bookies' odds, with Hull being the overwhelming relegation favourite on both the sportsbook and exchange. Each of us is strongly fancied to go straight back down, which feels a reasonable prediction when you compare squad strengths with the opposition. A minority will be more attracted to Hull because of their foreign owner; the notion that he may have secret levers to pull in the transfer window. Likewise, Coventry's recruitment hasn't undergone a field test with PL purse strings and some will believe in Lampard's unique draw. We, on the other hand, have been tested here recently and were found wanting, so many will extrapolate from that in the same way many did for Burnley last season. Not many of the players we invested in with the first paycheck are predicted to blossom into PL regulars, similar again to Burnley. Last time we were uniquely fancied on account of our gaffer extraordinnaire, while there was also an established PL club whom the majority had given up on in Wolves. This time the gaffer is, like our recruitment team, considered a more known quantity and there isn't a walking wounded in the league. So overall we're the most fancied to stay up, but still strongly fancied to go down, and we're the most known, which makes us less appealing to those who are attracted to the wilder and bolder predictions. I'm not one who finds motivation in outside noise personally but appreciate many do - hopefully us being the least exotic pick inspires a few players.

I think only by forgetting they are even in the Prem. They have to be favourites to go down and they can also relish that underdog tag and see what they can do.

Someone posted on here (sorry, I forgot who), data showing that if you get 7 points in the first 5 games, you're pretty much guaranteed to stay up.

Yeah the Coventry stuff is absolutely mental, seen some say that they've got 5-6 passable Prem players from last year, I don't think they've got 1. We absolutely dismantled them, was two of our easier wins last year. [Post edited 9 Aug 10:08]

| Written off - And I like it on 12:54 - Aug 8 with 2267 views | greyhound | The benefit we have over cov and hull is we have been here more recently than both by a margin. I think that last experience brings many shades of reality to the fan base. It must be said I don't yet feel we have a team with the depth required to compete at the level. I've been banging the drum about sentiment for a couple of weeks but having done this before we must let go of feelings that Jack Taylor, George Hirst and Cameron humphreys will do a job for us. I still feel like we may be midway through GON rebuild 1.0 with the club maybe cautiously spending dependent on performance. I certainly feel we are doing better value for money trading, but I also think there's going to be a swathe of unregistered dead wood come the close of the window. Button and AAH to name but 2. I would expect us to start seeing what we are about by mid October. I'm not seeing much exciting in the friendlies so far but today will be a much better test. I look forward to the post match comments from leadership which should tell us more about the direction and if the plan is to get plenty more bodies in and plenty more out. There's enough unrest in the league for us to survive. The balance of last year's big clubs woefully under performing and smaller clubs qualifying for Europe though means big money is being spent. In my mind the only thing that could add up to is the possibility of a lower points total being needed to survive as points are more broadly shared in a more competitive playing field. This would suit us, but we need to not fall into an early rut of getting spanked as this will cause an inevitable pile on and comparisons around our legitimacy to be in the league, and to some extent I would worry for the possibility of GoN standing a chance at a decent tenure. The clubs ambitions I would imagine are beyond those very predictions that write us off, but if they are to be achieved further backing is needed in many areas of the pitch and some transfers out need to reach a resolution sooner rather than later. | | | |

As a fan who goes back to the golden days of the 1970ās I can speak with experience I believe. I have seen 3 pre seasons this season and yesterday showed we are getting stronger. I thought the energy and intensity shown was outstanding. The guy next to me, also a āsenior fanā, agreed we are in a far better place than 2 years ago when we were promoted a season too early. That is with the greatest respect to KM and his squad. Many of the current squad have experienced the Premiership and that will hold them in good stead. Very important we get 3 points against Sunderland. Interestingly our first victory in 2000 was against Sunderland, I recall, with Titus Bramble scoring.
