Offer in for Exequiel Palacios… 11:11 - Aug 9 with 16526 viewsGary_Knows

… if we manage to sign him, my word!

I put an offer in to the fittest girl in the year above me at school.

She laughed and told me to F off in much the same way Palacios will.

I think this is unlikely. I suspect the club have a bid in but, as other say, this is Romano being paid well to push up the numbers and offers for his employees.

However, IF it happens it would be wild - though I really, really hope that in the future signing players of this calibre does not mean we still can't joke about the idea of signing Batistuta forever onwards.

Poor analogy.

Neither Portman Road or Playford Road are Fugly.

He’s obviously heard about PR’s world class atmosphere.

More likely the Portman pie.

That would presumably be instead of Enciso.

Not really got room for both if we're playing 4 at the back*, 2 DCMs and 3 behind a striker. The ACM has already got to be in place of one of those. Having two top level ones plus Walle Egeli (let alone Mehmeti) is overkill.

Unless Enciso is intended as a pure No.9.

* There is no evidence from preseason that O'Neil intends three at the back. Which still doesn't entirely work, anyway, as the wingbacks have to be fitted in somewhere.

An offer in TO….

And apparently Palacios is on £145k a week, pretty sure our pockets aren’t that deep, in the same way I didn’t have much to appreciate the girl in the year above at school.

I thought Palacios played deeper than Enciso, so we'd still be looking for a ten even if we signed him.

Why? Enciso and Palacios are completely different types of players, who play completely different positions?

I doubt whether this will happen - maybe his agent has encouraged our interest in order to fuel bids from bigger clubs. Or maybe we’re putting in bids to show the height of our ambitions or to put pressure on more realistic targets to sign-up.

Some posters have stated that they don’t want players who don’t jump to come here. Ridiculous to think that as players like Leif Davis and Morsy probably were not thrilled to come here initially.

I thought he’d already said there was no way he was signing for us when it first broke?

A lot of people outside the UK struggle with the place names: Ipswich, Norwich and Sandwich.

Supposedly that’s been cleared up and the deal is back on.

I fear we have this backwards, my brothers.

Palacios should be asking us whether we would have him.

Yes, he hath a Bundesliga title. Yes, he hath an Argentine shirt. Very impressive. But hath he known the roar of Portman Road? Hath he been blessed by the Suffolk faithful beneath the sacred lights? I think not.

Newcastle? Villa? Let them compete amongst themselves for lesser men.

We are offering Palacios the opportunity to become immortal. To leave his mark upon the greatest footballing dynasty East Anglia hath ever witnessed.

If he truly said there was “no way” he was joining us, I suspect he simply did not yet understand the magnitude of the honour being offered.

By January he shall be standing at the Sir Alf Ramsey statue, weeping tears of gratitude and asking why he ever doubted us.

Fabrizio Romano is not hurrying other clubs along.

He is sounding the trumpet. The gates of Portman Road have been opened, the heralds are assembled, and the sacred blue robes await their new bearer.

The question is not whether Ipswich is good enough for Palacios.

The question is whether Ipswich shall deem him worthy.

The fact we are in the conversation and being linked shows how far we have come and our ambition. It may not happen or it might but if any Argentinian comes to Town they've got big shoes to fill from the previous Argentinian at Town!

Poll: In the two horse race to be Town's manager, who do you want?

I heard Palacios is keen to sign for us now. Romano DM'd me on x saying that he delivered lengthy reasoning for wanting to join ITFC. Allow me to quote Exequiel's 17th paragraph:
""
The path of the righteous midfielder is beset on all sides by the temptations of other clubs and the tyranny of those who would keep him away from Portman Road. Blessed is he who, in the name of pride and good football, shepherds the ball through the valley of midfield, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of the killer pass. And I will strike down upon thee with great tackles and furious pressing those who would attempt to deny my brothers victory. And you will know my name is Palacios when I lay my boots upon the Portman Road pitch.
""

Def info.

They're different players, I find this move unlikely now we've signed two midfielders *but* we will definitely want as much depth of quality as possible, we need to learn all the lessons from last time and will go all out this summer.

He’s a different profile to what we’ve signed, and I can see a world where we sell Taylor and/or Nunez, so can see we will need another one.

Would be some coup for us, fingers crossed.

He hath studied the ways of the knight, but alas, remains but a peasant in borrowed armour.

A noble attempt, certainly, but one does not simply ascend the ranks of medieval delusion through imitation. The sword may be lifted, the cloak may be worn, but the bloodline cannot be forged.

Yes, now you mention, I do recall coming across a stone tablet near Mount Sinai prophesising Gary's formation for the coming season. The revolution is written.

Alas, the poor peasant hath been duped by an enchanted scroll. He hath replied to words which no longer exist, for the scribe hath altered the parchment whilst he was still composing his response.

A cruel trick, indeed. But such are the perils of debating knights when one is armed only with a quill and half a brain.
