I thought he’d already said there was no way he was signing for us when it first broke?

That really is ambition and would put our midfield alongside most in the bottom 10.

Must have been given encouragement to bid.

He reported the initial interest, but not sure he reported he wouldn’t be keen on coming here?

Clearly 1 of 2 things - either had encouragement he’s willing to sign, hence the offer OR (and most likely scenario), his agent is using Romano to get other teams to firm up their interest and is using our name.

Imagine Romano is helping to hurry others along here honestly. Also not sure if this would be our focus now given the recent arrivals. We are going for it though and it isn't a huge shock that we've been in the conversation.

Shock Fab takes money of agents to try to force a move for a player would never have thought it, (checks notes) only done it twice with jayden with 5 different clubs linked each time.

Great to see us showing ambition but feels like our interest is being used to promote the player.

Would be shocked if he doesn’t end up at a Newcastle / Villa calibre of club at a minimum.

GON did say 1 or 2 on Tuesday night and we must have been pretty far down the line on Lukic at that point.

I like Taylor/ Nunez but I think it's also clear that that's the position with the most influence in the PL. We have to have options.

If we thought he was available to come here he would be our focus as he massively improves us.

Think we might sell Jack Taylor if we manage to sign Palacios and his x1 World Cup, x1 Bundesliga, x2 Copa America, x1 German Cup winning.

My days, as they say.

Would be an outstanding signing and arguably the biggest statement signing in our recent history. Understandably fans are cautious in regards getting this done. Maybe Phil can shed some light 💡

I fear we have this backwards, my brothers.

Palacios should be asking us whether we would have him.

Yes, he hath a Bundesliga title. Yes, he hath an Argentine shirt. Very impressive. But hath he known the roar of Portman Road? Hath he been blessed by the Suffolk faithful beneath the sacred lights? I think not.

Newcastle? Villa? Let them compete amongst themselves for lesser men.

We are offering Palacios the opportunity to become immortal. To leave his mark upon the greatest footballing dynasty East Anglia hath ever witnessed.

If he truly said there was “no way” he was joining us, I suspect he simply did not yet understand the magnitude of the honour being offered.

By January he shall be standing at the Sir Alf Ramsey statue, weeping tears of gratitude and asking why he ever doubted us.

Fabrizio Romano is not hurrying other clubs along.

He is sounding the trumpet. The gates of Portman Road have been opened, the heralds are assembled, and the sacred blue robes await their new bearer.

The question is not whether Ipswich is good enough for Palacios.

The question is whether Ipswich shall deem him worthy.

He means Palacios or his agent said this - last week or week before - not the guy tweeting. There was thread on it here.

Eeyore time - I can't see it and hope we don't waste too much time on him and miss out on more likely targets, which is what it felt like with Ioannidis.

Or (if true) the club has decided to test the water by making an offer.
I'm sure (if true) we will quickly find out, ie club accepts offer but player, or rather agent, respond with no not interested.

I can't believe you actually think we go after a player and stop working on all other deals until that one completes.

You aren't one for multitasking are you.

Three CDM’s is a lot, when Lukic can cover there too.

Of course we work on multiple deals, but we can't sign every single player on our list. We're going to have a preference order and, if number one is available, then we'll put the rest of hold until to see whether we can get the primary one over the line. In the meantime, those further down our list may decide to move on to a club who come across as wanting them more, so when the primary target turns us down, numbers two, three, four etc. are no longer available.

It's a balancing act, and up to Ashton and co to decide who is serious - and can we meet their demands - and who is maybe using us to tempt their preferred destination into upping either or both of the transfer fee/contract. At this time I really don't think Palacios is serious. The story about him not wanting to come here is something of a red flag.

He’s not primarily a defensive midfielder, he’s a box to box 8, which we still desperately need

There were some reports from slightly murky sources suggesting he didn’t want it, but nothing concrete. I suspect he may not have been sold on the package at one point, but we may now have gone back in with a more enticing offer.

Generally speaking, once a club officially bids for a player, they’ve already broadly agreed the personal terms via the players agent. So for me, if we genuinely are submitting an initial proposal to Leverkusen, then it suggests the player is, at the very least, open to the move.

Poll: Ipswich offer you 10k a week, Norwich offer you 20k. Who do you join?
