After myself and Jnr visiting FPR yesterday Jnr (unfortunately a Spurs fan) said he'd like to go to more games.
I haven't had a season ticket in over 20 years and wondered how easy it would be for us to attend the odd match during the season? Am I right that we'd both have to be members to stand a chance of getting tickets? Is there any guarantee that if we paid the £60-80 to be members we'd get tickets?
All very confusing so I thought I'd ask the most intelligent people I know!

Wouldn’t say you’re guaranteed but the only chance to get tickets is by getting a membership.
Don’t think new members can enter the home ballots but you will have the same chance as everyone else when they go on sale to members.
You’d have got tickets for Sunderland at home for example. |  |

Even with a OAP card I paid £44.05 return from Surrey to Ipswich return yesterday. The days of cheaper tickets for specific times have gone. As regards match tickets, sadly limited to new members as one needs to have been a member last season. The only option is hospitality which, although expensive, is enjoyable. | | | |

Can’t see anything on the club site to say that new members can’t enter the ballot, but I may be wrong.

We've done the local scene and even some league two clubs but there's not the connection to my team!
I know its the way the game is going but it can't help generate new fans when they have to fork out £60-£80 for a season membership with no chance of watching the team! | |

They only sell a certain percentage through the ballot (I think ~25%), the rest is sold usually on a Monday morning - you join the waiting room and hope you get lucky. | | | |

No, only a proportion go to the ballot.

It shouldn't be that much even for full price off peak tickets.
If you book in advance you can get cheaper tickets which are confined to particular trains.
As an example, it will cost me £26.50 to get from Kent via London Bridge to Ipswich for the Sunderland game.
If you can't get cheaper tickets, splitting the journey at Manningtree saves a bit.
And if you travel with another specific person there it the Two Together railcard.

Yes, the trick is to be available when the tickets release. This is usually at 10am on a Monday. You want to login and go to the tickets page on the website between 9:30 and 10:00. This puts you in a waiting room (queue). At 10am you are assigned a queue position, and when your number comes up you can select your tickets.
With membership, you link family and friends who have membership, and you can then buy tickets for anyone in your group on the tickets website. When the tickets are in your basket, remember to assign each to a different person in the group, otherwise you won’t be able to confirm the purchase. | | | |

That's not true. A simple look at Trainline will show you a variety of different prices for different trains and for booking at different periods in advance.
I got cheap tickets to/from London for the Sunderland game the other day.
And I'm pretty sure you can buy Members tickets if you're a member this season, though I'm not sure about the ballot. I missed it on the ballot but still got tickets in herbal sale for Sunderland, so you'll stand a chance for some games. [Post edited 9 Aug 22:52]

To enter the ballot you have to have had membership last season as well as this season.
Two years ago when we were in the Premier League, I only got tickets via the ballot once. Last season I was successful in the ballot for the majority of matches. Cant think why the difference :-)
The only other option is to join the Monday morning scramble (for members) and hope you get allocated a low queue number. | | | |

I had a membership for 3 years but didn't bother last year as unfortunately couldn't make many games (and in the end games were moving times etc near the end anyway!)
