It's lovely, isn't it?

Out for my Sunday bike ride earlier, and and it's lovely scenery wherever you go. My usual ride tends to take in places like Coddenham, Hemingstone, Henley, Crowfield, Ashbocking. Nice mix of pretty villages and rolling fields. And that's representative of all of rural Suffolk.

I think it is easy to take the place you live for granted, but this is the sort of place people choose to go on holiday.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

To me, the Suffolk countryside is wonderful, like you say, gentle rolling countryside with big skies. To be fair Norfolk is very nice too. It always perplexes me when people say that East Anglia is flat when the reality is that its only the Fens that are flat and they have a wondeful charm in themselves.

Yes, 100% every time I come back once a year I didn’t realize what I took for granted growing up.

I’d be bored to tears living there now in all honesty but a very nice and peaceful part of the world with some stunning villages, pubs and coastline.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Suffolk definitely doesn't feel flat when you are on a bike!

I’m just travelling back from from rural Somerset and the hills there are a different gravy. Beautiful part of the country though and comparisons with Suffolk were constant. Very lucky the uk has so much space.

Also astounded how much sunburn I’ve noticed wandering around at service stations- can’t be a sunscreen shortage can there?

Absolutely. East Suffolk, though, has been rather ravaged lately with Sizewell C, Dunwich and all the other energy projects. Shows that it can be lost and we need to be vigilant of things that will reduce it in future (I include a Northern Bypass in that category as well!)

We walked along a northern stretch of The Waveney this afternoon, by The Dukes Head at Somerleyton. There was a nice breeze, but it was too hot to stay out for long. A nice cool pub was called for.

Suffolk is a beautiful county. It has such variety of scenery too and virtually a different view around every corner. I am lucky to be able to spend a fair bit of time there.

Norfolk is lovely too. We are lucky to have such a variety of scenery in this islands. Honourable mentions to parts of Kent where I live, Yorkshire Dales, Cotswolds, Devon and Cornwall to name but five. I have to say Loch Lomond was pretty stunning when I visited the other week.

Ran the Stour Valley Path from Sudbury to Manningtree yesterday, absolutely stunning countryside... and some pretty decent hills.

Walked along the river Orwell this evening, from the Shotley side.

Saw one man and his dog, bloody lovely

We really are lucky in Suffolk.

Let’s keep it that way

The western part of the county ,specifically the Newmarket Ridge, is quite hilly but not too hilly. While there certainly not you would see in Yorkshire it's not exactly flat either.

In the main, Suffolk doesn't have hills but what it does have is valleys and that makes it seem like there are hills.

For example, the Orwell and Deben rivers are picturesque with the land rising on each side.

Suffolk born and bred but lived in Norfolk for years. Remember once travelling across by train from Manchester to Sheffield with a work colleague from that area. He was extolling the virtues of the views there in comparison with ‘where you’re from’ and got right arsey when I complained about the mountains getting in the way of the view.

Better to stay silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt

My favourites places are the coast and the Stour, Orwell and Deben valleys, all of which are designated as Areas of Outstanding Beauty.

Having lived away for 11 years. Whenever I go back it feels very much like the sort of place you would want to take a holiday in. It really is beautiful and I now see how I took it all for granted when I last lived there. I can't wait to return for good, which will happen in a couple of months.

suffolk is a wonderful place. as well as it's countryside it has some very good pubs. but many are very much in a use it or lose it situation at present, and it strikes me as brave to re-open one just now.

the elephant and castle in eyke has just recently re-opened. it's style is classic village pub. the beer is good - haven't tried the food yet. so if you fancy a trip out to a country pub, give it a go (many other classic suffolk pubs are also available).

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Suffolk is massively underrated. By contrast Essex is incredibly overpopulated, and ‘wild’ places are virtually non existent now, just farmland and housing estates. Theres a nature reserve near me which is 1km2…

Ahh, the river Deben. 10 minutes walk from my Suffolk hovel. Nothing like sitting outside the Maybush, sun shining, lunch on order, pint on the table looking out while the boaty people do boaty things.
