Having just binge-watched Big Little Lies on Now TV (which we really enjoyed), I have added Northern California to my list of must-visit places to get to. I had no idea it was just so beautiful. I also heard someone on the news this afternoon describe it as 'objectively the most beautiful place on earth'.
It got me wondering, what places have people seen in a film or TV show, and it has sparked the idea to visit? What show/film was it, what was the location, and have you been yet?

I bit of time ago but you may remember Salem's Lot ? On a cruise that took in several places along the East coast we took a trip to Salem. There's a statue of Samantha from the tv series Bewitched. The Police and Fire dept both have witches on broomsticks on the doors of their vehicles. We visited the witch museum where you go into a large blacked out building which has a circular seating area in the middle and around the wall high up are various scenes which you are taken through to show how the witch trials happened and the outcome. Then of course when finished you go through the obligatory shop where we bought a lovely model of a witch which we have on display every Halloween along with a few others we have picked up and put the pumpkin outside so the kids all call round for Trick or Treat.

I'd love to do that, I used to read a lot of Stephen king in my younger days and Maine is somewhere I'd love to go explore a bit.
I've probably been to a few places but the most recent was earlier this year, headed off to N Wales for Ms Coastal's birthday, on the way we stopped off in the Wye Valley, she's a big Sex Education fan, for a spot of lunch. Stunning area and well worth a visit.
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

The Talented Mr Ripley.
The islands of Ischia and Procida, just off Naples. Most agreeable.
Came here to say this. Watched that film and thought that I must visit these places at some point. Was in Naples last year and took a boat trip to Procida.

No, i saw them though. and got a video of them pootling around. theyre bloody weird to look at - the only way i can describe them is "box-shaped shrivelled volkwagon camper vans" - with 4 black round things on each corner and the roof.
Xoxo have got a free trial running in LV - so you can go on them for free - i think that ends this week though.
im a bit of a control freak - if im gonna die in a car i dont want it to say "killed by Johnny 5" on my headstone. tbf they seemed to be doing alright though.
saw load of those tesla cybertrucks as well. they're also very odd looking.

I thought it was great. Drives better than my wife.
We just hopped on the bus to go from the Bellagio to Fermont Street in Vegas. The ride back was rather interesting as the bus pulled over, the Police boarded and dragged off a knife wielding crack head.

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.
Kefalonia. Visited two years running after watching Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. The film was bang average, but the scenery looked amazing. Stayed in Sami the second time where a lot of scenes were filmed as was Anti-Samos beach. Loveliest of the Greek islands I’ve been to (so far).
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.

Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, written by an ex-Chantry High School teacher!
We went to Spinalonga leper colony this year as the missus had read the novel The Island by Victoria Hislop. Was really interesting
Also visited various places in Jamaica based on the love of Ian Fleming 007 books

Race Across the World is dangerous. China is the latest place it’s given me an itch for. I’ve gone over the border into China by about 50m, but that doesn’t count.
Other than that, Mongolia & Tibet (yes, I know it’s technically China) and then probably the ‘stans. I’m a bit of an Asia nut.
We are doing a land trip to Turkey in April. Mrs Radlett has never been & has always been keen; I went there 40 years ago but am happy to return & we will be going to some parts I didn't visit, e.g. Cappadocia, which featured in Race Across the World, which inspired her again.
I went to Scampia in Naples last year, where the Scampia feud in 04/05 was fought between Camorra gangs - which the show Gomorrah is based on and most of it is set.
Le Vele di Scampia (the sails of Scampia) are there - brutalist social housing buildings built in the 60’s & 70’s. They were never properly finished and then just left to decay. A lot of homeless families ended up squatting there after the earthquake in 1980. The state turned a blind eye to it, the Camorra gained control and turned it into Europe’s biggest open air drug market. The government finally cracked down on it after an innocent woman was abducted, murdered and dumped in a car which was set on fire (this is depicted in Gomorrah).
They’re being pulled down now - there was only 3 left standing out of the original 7 when I went and they’ll soon (bar one) all be gone as part of a redevelopment project in the area.
Its obviously nowhere near as bad as it was (they’ve since opened a university there), but it’s not advised to visit as a tourist, locals would rather you didn’t, and there’s graffiti about the place saying as much - “Non siamo Gomorra”, but I couldn’t resist. I went to the sails, had a look around the market that was on, and walked around Piazza Ciro Esposito, which is named after a Napoli fan from Scampia who was shot dead by a Roma ultra in 2014.

I used to cycle past the building used as the police headquarters in Mad Max on my way to work in Melbourne.
I've often gone a little out of my way to go past the Lloyd's building when I'm in London, not because it was in Guardians of the Galaxy but because it's quite cool to see and there's a decent cafe opposite.
I'd like to get to Shetland because of, well, Shetland...
