I have wondered a couple of times over the last few years and I would love to see it debated on one of the town podcasts what would mick Mccarthy have done given such a budget. The shift in times and finances is unimaginable and while things didn't end well, he did so much with so little. Managing us at that point in the Evans era must of been absolutely draining.
I wouldn't worry too much, we're well protected by the lengths of contract we're giving out. If the worst happens, we'll easily recoup our money on Enciso, Van Oevelen, Scherpen, Fatawu and Emersonnn, and at least a decent chunk on the others. Plus we'll have £60m in parachute payments for year one, £30m for year two, and £15m for year three if it even came to that.
Best case scenario, we stay up and all that money we've invested we get back to spend again next year!
IF we get to January and are mid table I think we will go back in the market and would not be surprised to see us signing players for 40 - 60 m. Ideally a striker who is hotter than a vindaloo.
Our deals are going to be a lot easier to broker if we are not likely to go down and god forbid run deep in a cup.

I think we'll do some business in Jan. If we can stay competitive and find ourselves outside the bottom 3 I wouldn't be at all surprised if we look at the likes of Akpom, Nunez, Mehmeti, Kipre etc (assuming they're still here and not featuring hugely) and look to move them out and go big on some upgrades to push us over the line.

One thing we know is the investment team have zero fear, if they think they can spend another 100 m in January 2027 to improve the team for the rest of this season and build for the season after with the same group then I assume that is how you win stuff at this level.
Money walks, bullsh!t talks.

With it now at £149.55m is £190m+ feasible?? on 17:30 - Aug 17 with 1251 views
But in our annual spend. It only works out at approx £40 mill doesnt it ( maybe add a bit more for annual wages)
Our sales however go towards it in full. So if we did get 3.5 for harry. That 3.5 immediately goes against that 40 mill and if we sold jayden for 40 for arguments sakw then our book spend on fees would be zero..

Doesn't work like that on sales. Purchases are spread over the length of the contract, so correct in that respect if we spent £200m on 5 year deals its £40m a year. On sales the book value that isn't yet 'unwound' is expensed when selling. So in Philogene's case it would still be about half of what we paid.
Wages are a big factor though. £77m last time out in the Premier League, will be much higher this time. Spending rules are 85% of turnover, the majority of that will be eaten up in salaries rather than transfer fee amortisation.
I read we are valued at 350 m so this is only a bit more than a 1/3 of the value.
Get it banged up to 250 m spend this and January window and let's see where that takes us.
That report undervalued, was £400m at that point, when the restructuring took place at the end of last year with Premier League promotion priced into that.
