| Is it naive going into new season with 3 of our back 4 the same as last season? on 11:30 - Aug 18 with 1470 views | Guthrum | I don't think so. The defence has been the area most developed over the last season in the Champ, conceding joint 2nd lowest goals against in the division and 10 fewer than in 2023-24. It has been stiffened by the addition of Diop in the centre and Ouattara as something of a utility player (allowing positions to be shuffled). O'Neil has clearly seen the battle as taking place in midfield and out wide, with a garnish of attackers to fill pre-existing the void at CF. | |

| Is it naive going into new season with 3 of our back 4 the same as last season? on 11:30 - Aug 18 with 1463 views | jasondozzell | Nope. DOS = one of our best players and captain. Premier league quality. Greaves is a really really good young player. Improving all the time. Leif is Leif. Absolute heartbeat of club and huge part of how we will play. | | | |

What he said. We have a very settled defence now, with Diop being an excellent addition. I'd love it if we could add a quality RWB but it's possible in Outarra we already have. Only real question mark is whether Kipre is good enough back up. Possibly need a little more depth

| Is it naive going into new season with 3 of our back 4 the same as last season? on 12:10 - Aug 18 with 1220 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | I think we will add another centre half as competition for Greaves. Not sure he has done enough to be someone you can hang your hat on every week in the Premier League with certainty. We are 6 months removed from him losing his place to Cedric Kipre in the Championship. Lost his place to Burgess last time in the Prem when the left side of our defence really struggled (yes the midfield was part of that). That being said, maybe he starts the season on fire and shows he has really made a step and can be what we all thought he could be after that Liverpool game, but right now I just need him to be a bit stronger and cut out the sloppy mistakes. | |

| Is it naive going into new season with 3 of our back 4 the same as last season? on 12:10 - Aug 18 with 1225 views | _CliveBaker_ | I think we went up with probably 3 players of Premier League quality, and 2 of them were O'Shea and Davis. Philogene being the 3rd. It makes sense to prioritise midfield and forward areas. We've added Diop at the back which is a very shrewd signing, and young Outtara as a versatile defender. In time I think in time the addition of a really top central defender would be ideal. Would probably spell curtains for Kipre and relegate Greaves to 4th, at which point it would look a pretty strong contingent. GON's successful Wolves team was built on a very strong central midfield, and real pace and energy in attacking areas. I don't actually think the central defence of Craig Dawson and Max Killman was any stronger than ours is tbh, although I'm not convinced we have a Neto & Cunha either. Fatawu & Enciso might cause some teams problems though. | | | |
| Is it naive going into new season with 3 of our back 4 the same as last season? on 12:18 - Aug 18 with 1136 views | Swansea_Blue | Yes for me. Furlong slows us down and I’m not convinced about Greaves as a starter, but ok for cover. So a new rb and cover (or better) for Leif needed imo. We’ve got the numbers as it is, just a few question marks over quality. But we’ll have to see how it pans out with the new midfield. Ah, I forgot about the lad we signed yesterday. Maybe he’s the Furlong upgrade if we play him at rb? [Post edited 18 Aug 12:20]

Yeah, we have that right side covered now I think. The left is still something we need good cover for. We are correct to have been focusing on the CM and attacking roles though, IMHO. We looked very lightweight up top, add Embolo and Palacios and we looked a very different beast.

Is 25/26 young? He should be hitting his peak soon. I'm not convinced about Greaves. I'm guessing we'll be after another left CB option at some point (I know we have Kipre, but lets face it, he's probably not up to PL level)
| Is it naive going into new season with 3 of our back 4 the same as last season? on 15:17 - Aug 18 with 645 views | ThatMuhrenCross | Not really. In O'Shea and Greaves you've got £30m worth of CB recruitment. They were signed last time out to be Premier League starters and both now have an extra couple of years experience behind them. | |

Which one don't you agree with? DOS and Leif will start all our games this season. Greaves is still hugely underrated. Very good player.

Agree. And we have signed two excellent additions for that position.

Does have a mistake in him though, the boy Greaves. When he's good he's really good and does a lot to a really high standard, but really needs to cut out the rash decision making at times. Southampton away at the end of last season being a good example, ridiculous tackle to give away the freekick for their 1st, and didn't cover himself in glory with the 2nd either. There's a reason Kipre kept him out for most of last season and Burgess at times the year before.

It's a fair point. He sometimes overplays too. But he gets rbekjfb a lot of work and I think is better than everyone realises. I think his little dip after his injury meant a lot formed the wrong impression of him.

| Is it naive going into new season with 3 of our back 4 the same as last season? on 18:20 - Aug 18 with 252 views | ipswichtillidie | Fair question tbh. I suspect on the left side of defence we will still add in this window. Blue tinted glasses off and there is question marks over Greaves and Leif in a defensive sense imo. Greaves may well improve and be the player we all hope, most centre halves mature later and he’s still very young so there is a player in there but I do worry about him at times. Even DOS can sit off too much at times and allow too much space. Let’s see what the window brings still before assessing. | |
