In the know has been used on here since I joined in the early 2000's and I've been using pants down since the 90s

"Ipswich Town have won a game"

the early 2020s really were such a horrendous time to be an Ipswich supporter

Players ‘initiating contact’……feckin cheating

XG of 0.82….clean sheet or toothless up front

Balls hitting him/her him above/below the t-shirt line……handball

Official hydration partners….some hideous energy drink that keeps the grandkids awake & arguing all evening

Arm in an unnatural position….there’s no natural place for arms in a game of football

Players having it ‘in their locker’…….the only things in the locker should be the Rolex & wallet when playing some scallywags on their council recreation pitch in the early rounds of the cup

Players ‘setting out their stall’…..concentrate on the match and worry about car boot sales afterwards

Sometimes I giggle about the frothing lunatic who’s put me on ignore and now has to constantly log out to see what I’ve said. Beneath that counterfeit persona lurks the same pitifully desperate egomaniac.

I had never heard playing through the lines until women pundits started using the phrase at every possible opportunity

Translates as ‘nine new players who don’t know what they’re supposed to be doing unless they’re Sunderland’….

I don't like 'It's just a coming together' as is now used by lots of commentators when a blatant foul has been committed and it now seems to be used in such scenarios as say when in the home game against Leicester two seasons ago Chaplin was completely cleaned out in the Leicester penalty box and wasn't awarded what should of been a blatant penalty (and yes I'm still bitter about it). I can't remember whether these words were used in this exact passage of play when Chaplin was taken out but I've heard in used in similar such situations.

I just hear this phrase used so often now and it really bugs me as it tries to excuse certain players completely taking another one out.

I hate it when people say ‘should of’ rather than ‘should have’.

"Fine Margins" Over and over again!

51% of last season's Premier games were won by a single goal. I imagine that's around par over recent years so,yes, fine margins are in the nature of football and also in any other sport where highly trained competitors face off.

I hate all these.

Add in:
Two banks of four
Hydration break
VAR
No disrespect (it means you/the team are the dregs of the universe)
Simulation (cheating)
Transitioning (you mean trotting up the pitch)
High press (marking the defender)
Second phase (it’s 90 minutes phase, ya dope!)
Recycle (I do that with wine and beer bottles - and the odd pickled onion jar)
Forced turnover (you mean you tackled the sap)
Channel ball (whop it into the corner)
Development squad (ressies, stiffs or yoofs?)

All brought in for the baseball/US audience

Week in, week out. Just say "every week." It takes less energy.

Starters and finishers.

Playing in the pockets.

Probably older than 10 years now, but I still hate it: 'stone wall', usually used in conjunction with 'penalty'. No... it's 'cast iron'.

'In and around'.

'intensity' is now used by commentators and pundits dozens of times every game. Used to just be considered as making an effort or trying hard. it's become meaningless. Momentum is another one, the momentumometer at the world cup was particularly crap, it's just possession.

And don't get me started on xG. What a load of bollox
