Why leave it until late on? They sell beer in the ground just arrive a bit earlier.

Get to ground early , it was a simple instruction so why so many still came at 2.15 onwards I don’t understand.

I'd say 2.15 for a 3pm kick off IS early!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Should you have to get to a game 2 hours early?

It will improve and given the amount of work going on, new ticketing, first game of the season, I don’t think asking people to get there earlier is too much of a hardship this time. It’ll improve.

Get there early and if you can buy a drink/pie/programme go to club shop etc, the more revenue the club gets the better.

Appreciate times are tough but if you can go for lunch/dinner in town and pub post match to support the local economy too.

Previously I had the choice of 15 turnstiles. Always got through in a matter of minutes. Yesterday I got to queue twice, firstly at 1 of 3 entry points, then a choice of 4 turnstiles. 30 minutes. The turnstile queue will get quicker as people get used to the new technology but 3 security check points for what, 9,000ish people needs looking at.

Trying to get into the West Stand on 01:59 - Aug 23 by Benters

When I was able to go I was ‘designated table grabber’ i used to get the 9.24 from Benters Junction into Towen, arrive at Mannings for 10.45 and ‘grab our table’ those were truly the days.and man did we love that pub and table .

We also had it down to a fine art of leaving Mannings and arriving at our seats just as they were reading the teams out.

We've had to have a table grabber at the Greyhound and get there earlier than we used to because of the increase in the number of punters in recent years, although the person varies from game to game.

And like you we've always timed it so that when we get inside the stadium there's only a few minutes before kick, although we had to make an exception yesterday and got to the turnstiles at 2.30 to be on the safe side.

As it was, the queues to the north stand were less than normal, so when it settles down, I'm sure we'll revert to our normal practice.

The vendors outside and inside the fanzone were doing very little business because people were more concerned about getting and keeping their place in the queue .

On a sepatate note, I spend my money in my local community which is the other side of the county.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll be sorted.

Because the game kicks off at 3pm.

And oh btw if 29,000 all turned up early that wouldnt work either would it,?

Its shouldnt take 30-45mins just to get into the stadium, thats just rubbish and a clear issue it shouldnt take more than 5 mins at most and thats not compared to League 1 Evans era thats compared to last time we were in the Premier league selling out every match

Its not like it was even just slowed up by the usual security theatre or the turnstiles aren't that quick. There were periods where the queues didnt move at all.

Why? What possible reason is there when there are 10+ turnstiles per stand do none of the queues move.??

But there you go if it takes that long to get in now im sure the club will notice the drop off in their concessions stalls because thousands are people are stood outside not buying stuff inside anymore and do something about it

Possibly if some people had read the instructions on what to do, that might have helped. Both in downloading their ticket and how to use it.

Perhaps if the idiot next to me getting into the stand itself had decided to hold the electronic ticket in the right place instead of rapping it like he was killing a fly it might have been quicker.

Perhaps when the work is finished and people have got used to it might work better.

The staff were patient and helpful. What they might have done better is advising people to move round to the quieter access points. Queue management and communication outside the ground needs improving. People out of habit were using the original West Stand entrance, yet the wait was short for the other two.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that with that work, first game, new system earlier is better. As for two years ago (and last year given the home crowds were much the same), the dopey security system, if you can call it that, caused plenty of delays and it was alway pot luck as to how long it took.

If you are talking about Burley’s Premier League years, there was never 29000 or security. Just a card and turnstiles.

A little bit of patience and people will get use to it. Hopefully the club will look at what worked well and what didn't and quickly improve it - not least because as you point out, by delaying people they are losing potential revenue in the ground.

Had an interesting conversation earlier today with someone who knows some of the people who work in the background at PR , he was told it was the police control room (whatever that is) who told the club they need to make some quick changes and open some extra entrances / gates yesterday as it was becoming dangerous.
1000s of people being funnelled into the West stand / fanzone with 100s trying to get out of the fanzone walking out of the same gates.
We didn't have walls, but I'm told they made the point we've had disasters at football grounds before with funnelling in people in the same direction.

He said that police demand was also the reason they opened up the hospitality section to let fans enter the West stand there.

From a health and safety perspective not a good look for Ipswich

There is a clear ingress and egress issue which MA will be interested to solve.

What do i like?

: I like the look of the perimeter, clean lines
: The e ticket machines are quick and easy to use
: I really like the new under west stand enclosure, its got the feel of a big stand with full end to end covered walkway and it will be great in bad weather
: I really like the new facilities and the auto self serve beer kiosk, easy

What do i not like?

: The need to queue into the adjacent park at 2pm rather than queue for the stand itself, it looked worse for those that had to arrive later
: The way those existing the fanzone have to cut across fan queues for the West Stand, this creates a bit more chaos, the flow isnt right
: Being tuned away from the fanzone at 2pm because it is at capacity, i thought this was the right place to enter as a pioneer season ticket holder

What could be improved?
: Finishing all the facilities and completing the paint work (thats obvious)
: Keep the fanzone exit and those leaving the fanzone away (close to the SBR stand) from those trying to get into the fanzone and west stand, have us enter further up SAR Way or from the top of the fanzone opposite the bus station

It's all temp at the moment.

Agreed that they need plenty more seating and tables in the fanzone if they want to encourage people to buy food. £7.25 for a bottle of beer is not the way to go though.

It's £7 for a pint in some pubs in town so not overpriced that much in comparison.

It shouldn't be that much anywhere but that's a whole different discussion

Not all the turnstiles were operational today but they will be in future.

For the 16 that were supposed to be there for the West Stand, I spotted at least three of the numbered turnstiles that were seemingly not yet in use with barriers in front of them.

I also saw a bunch of people scanning their NFC, seeing the word ENTER come up and then standing expecting the turnstile to move, the amount of people who had to be told to push them was surpirisng.
[Post edited 22 Aug 22:22]

It was £5 a pint in the North, which I thought was reasonable in this day and age.

Not all of us can spend the day on the lash, I've got 2 boys playing football, one of them was Leiston away, would love to get into town and have a leisurely lunch and pint but it's not feasible for lots of us.

Yes, I can well believe that's what happened. We are in the West Stand, arrived just before 2pm to find that 2 of the 3 entry points to the fanzone were shut. The stewards/security explained to me that the gates had been closed for safety because the fanzone was at capacity. So we joined the massive queue with everyone else trying to get through the one remaining open gate until the other two gates were then re-opened.

My question/concern is that if there really is a capacity constraint in the fanzone then surely we will have this issue for every game? No one who wants to get to the West Stand turnstiles will be able to if the fanzone is full...

I used to love a pie and a pint in the sunshine on the bit of the training pitch that wasn’t the fanzone. Now there’s a choice of go straight into the west stand and spend all of pre match in some grim, dark, fallout shelter, or go in the fanzone and face the massive queues when they kick everyone out at 2:30. And they don’t sell pies in the fanzone.

Not that any of this really matters because it takes an hour to get in anyway so there’s no time for it.

That explains how the majority got in for kick off because, at around 2:20, it didn't look possible.

Who are you, Brett Johnson :)

I'll turn up at ten to three as usual ta. Can't believe I'm the only one who likes a drink and lunch or whatever in the town before the game. Many of the people I see beforehand don't sit in the same stand. Fook this corporate fleecing and sanitisation of football.

I still buy drinks at half time btw, so spend on the club beyond my ST.
