There were queues but the situation was nothing like Hillsborough and the police requesting opening of the other gate was to bring fans in to the old fanzone area and off the public highways. |  | | |

How unfinished is the inside of the concourse and what will it be like when its someone? I havent seen any photos so im wondering if there was a no photo policy.
Some comment from a poster on here about the police intervening due to safety concerns.
Don't pretend to know all the details but when the police are instrcuting the club to open gates to alleviate issues it is clear they had concerns.

There were no safety issues, I was in the queue to get into West from 200-250. Zero, none. The opening of additional gates was to get fans into the ground before kick off. That worked.
The club do need to look at entry arrangements as everyone going via a single entrance (four people checking bags) created a pinch point.
Last season you had around a dozen turnstiles and fans once into the Fanzone could simply walk across to the stand. On Saturday, they apparently had to leave the Fanzone and queue again. That is what needs to be addressed. It will be fine with a couple of tweaks. | | | |

With absolute respect for the original poster, no one in the queue has said they felt unsafe, not one that I have seen. Very frustrated, yes, but unsafe no.
There is hearsay evidence of police getting involved to open more gates but clearly that was controlled and was to reduce the queue rather than release any pressure.
Maybe not the clubs finest hour but I do think we need to keep things accurate. At times over last couple of seasons stewards have opened exit gates and scanned people in to Curchmans using hand held scanners, who knows who was involved in the decision there? But there was no drama.
Could this not give some reassurance that all authorities have paid more than lip service to the horrific mistakes of the past? | | | |

It may well be fine in time but what genius decided that it was a good idea to make 6000+ fans go via 3 entry points. The third wasn’t even open at 2.15, so even those who’d arrived early were stuck in a queue that stretched back across the park. Basic maths says that each one of those 3 entrances (which also provide exits) has to cope with 2000 people, at 15 people per minute (which I doubt they were managing) that’s still over an hour and a half to get everyone through, and if you’re unlucky enough to be in the West Stand, you have to face another queue for 16 turnstiles.
It was a complete shambles, which even if EVERYONE had arrived at 1.30, they’d still have struggled to clear. |  | | |

Surely those who had entered the fanzone prior to going into the stand didn’t then have to queue up at the bag search queue again, could have simply joined the queue for the turnstiles?
I am surprised they didn’t keep the turnstiles on the perimeter of the ground as it’s a massive stand and people were able to move freely in a massive space once inside.

That is not how I saw it. At 1.40 I arrived at the usual West Stand entrance near NS. The queue was about average for my more normal entry time of 2.20. A steward said to me and others that the other two entrances were free with no queues.
The first had a small number of people waiting, the Constantine Road mouldy ticket office entrance a family of four in front and a couple next to them (there were two wand wavers). So at 1.40 there were three entrances open. Entering the stand, there was a few people but that was it.
The Fanzone was busy around the nosebag outlets and tent, but fine elsewhere, including the stage area where Frans was saying hi.
Under the stand there were plenty of people but it wasn’t too busy. I suspect more people will use it when it’s complete. In the stand, a few people ran up the stairs to take their seat at 3pm (I sit next to an entrance) but no more than normal.
That’s how it was for me.
Plenty to learn and improve upon by the club - and also the supporters. As an aside, why can’t people hold their wallet phone and keys as they aporoach the wand wavers instead of faffing about when the mush starts waving it about? |  | | |

Yep, moving the turnstiles is the main cause of the problems, I’m not sure how they’ll resolve it. Crowd modelling software couldn’t have been used. |  |

Dear god - THIS THIS THIS, 100%. You've queued for at least 10+ minutes, how hard is it to have stuff ready in your hands. I make a conscious effort these days to have no coins on me, will have my wallet, phone, car key and usually a headphone case (headphones in my ears) - I need nothing else. All of it is in my hand before I get "wanded". | | | |

I walked to the ground down Alderman street at 14:00, seeing a massive queue I thought it was for the match programme booth, but it was the queue to get in fan zone/ West stand, it was way past Alderman street. It was an orderly calm queue but that was an hour before kick off. I also very much respect BL's views and concerns, but feel the EADT are overstating things on safety here. I also think that the club will have taken this on board and give serious thought on how they can prevent a repeat at the Liverpool game, which will be much busier as many more fans will arrive at the same time to due to the evening kick off. As a side issue I found the NFC ticket recognition quicker than the ST card of last season, it was an unexpected improvement. |  | | |

Nice use of camera angle there. No idea when it was taken. I didn’t think the atmosphere was in the least bit tense or unpleasant. People were pretty relaxed was my experience.
As for missing kick off, look at the pictures of inside the stadium at 2.50 when the teams came out. You won’t see too many empty seats and there was no more than a dribble of the usual latecomers after 3pm.
If the club is to learn and improve how it manages this it doesn’t need ramping up of hype or indeed underplaying it. Just a thorough, accurate review, lessons learned and next steps.
