I’m proud that we’re “the Tractor Boys” 23:21 - Aug 27 with 1826 viewsThatMuhrenCross

As the video said, some people said it to “make fun of us”, but I embrace it.

Our club doesn’t just represent IP1, it represents the entire rural county of Suffolk, a proud agricultural region. The bread basket of England.

Our tractors and our Suffolk Punches are nothing to be ashamed of. They’re part of our cultural identity and I applaud the media team for embracing that and presenting that idea to a World Cup winner as part of his unveiling.

Our county feeds the nation!!

Is there anyone in our fanbase who feels ashamed of this in some way? It’s very sad if there is.

Proud of where I’m from. Always will be, buh!

I'm not even from Suffolk ( NE Essex ) and feel that Town should absolutely embrace it.

I never really understood Magiltons cringe at it.

I Think we should start a live home game by driving a blue New Holland tractor onto the pitch as we are beamed round the world. With big fanfare. I think it would gain us new fans in the global rural communities

I'm probably in the minority but I've never been a fan of it.

I cannot stop watching Palacios's welcome video. Pausing for a moment for advice....

I cannot decide whether it reminds me of ME era videos with the squad chasing chickens or something around a farmyard.

Should I be enjoying embracing the Tractor Boys moniker which we all know is only really a thing 2 decades ago.

Should I be worried Palacios suddenly decide wtf did you just have me do? Then jump back on his private jet.

Equally he does look super comfortable with the Punch's...

Or should ai just relax and revel in our new Tractor Engine, perhaps we have upgraded to a certain Lambourghini tractor I saw on Prime years ago.

Either way I think about it.... I fecking love it!!!! Well done media admins and now we have a big big player to make our dreams come true. (I.e. 18th place)

COYB's.... we mean business!!!!

I'll check the advice later I'm off to watch the announcement another 13 trillion times!!!

25 years ago it was all a bit of a laugh, and then the mainstream media decided to run with it.

Once the likes of Sky latch onto something the humour and the original intention is lost.

I remember being at Everton, and once we were 3-0 up we were using it as a witty retort to the p!ss taking and I thought it was great.

Then the media decided it was our new nickname and the irony was lost. It’s been used to patronise us for years.

I absolutely love this. It bodes so well for a deep connection with Exequiel, he's from a rural community himself and identifies with our community immediately. Proud to be a Tractor Boy.

It was Leeds in the fuel strike, not Everton.

I don’t think they’re Suffolk Punches are they..? Too small.

I’ve always liked the nickname.

Under burley in the premier league I remember the newspaper head that was approximately “Ipswich - ploughing up the premier league”. And then when we played torpedo Moscow “torpedo hit by a tractor”.

Stuff like that makes me smile!

I'm proud to live in the beautiful Suffolk countryside and come across a bit broad sometimes, but never been a fan of the tractor boys nickname. Don't know what other moniker referring to our local culture would have stuck as well mind

I don’t particularly mind the Tractor Boys thing. It is what it is and since it’s been going since the late 90s it’s not going to change now.

Admittedly it's a critique of farming practices, but maybe the club should play this before games.

I've never understood why people don't like it tbh, Suffolk has a rich agricultural history, we've literally got the Suffolk Punch in the badge.

Without being too corporate about it, its a valuable 'brand' identity. Its authentic, and a concept that translates globally. No different really to the Hammers or Blades nodding to local industry and heritage.

Didn’t it start at Birmingham?

My sister was at unit there mid to late 90s. She called me to tell me the local radio was warning of traffic issue as everyone from Suffolk would be coming up in tractors. I always thought when we went 1-0 in that game we sand “1-0 to the tractor boys…….” And it stuck after that?

Suffolk punches are beautiful creatures and are a great emblem.

The whole tractor boys thing is horrible though. And I say that as someone who grew up driving the things.

It’s not seen in a good way outside of the club, it just allows others to assume we are all thick inbreds and confuse for Norwich. I get that’s their ignorance and mistake, but it’s always been that way. At best it makes us worthy of a pat on the head.

The words “Ipswich town” should be enough or even Super Blues if you must. The cynical marketing of it just reinforces the trope too rather than bucks the trend.

It’s not for me and I will continue to refuse to use it.

From my memory, it started at a 2-2 with chelsea at home. But that might just be the first time i heard it. They were signing no noise from the tractor boys after taking an early 0-2 lead.

after equalising, we started signing something including tractors boys, but honestly can't remember what.
