Would be nice to sign a player who really wants the move & appears to be a straightforward, no nonsense type of character.

Yep in our position that is 100x more important. Someone who knows what it means to fight relegation, to defend from the front and battle non-stop. Compliments the three behind as well.

Type of player that would be a real fan favourite.

Wouldn’t be my first choice but I think we’ve either missed those other players rumoured to be in our radar or they e decided not to join

That said ZF is Prem ready and that is vital so , every cloud and all that

I’ll back the lad as much as the next guy whilst he wears a Town shirt

That's key now that he can sign, train then play straight away.

He has scored 3 goals in 2 games this season for Burnley so he has his eye in.

I am trying to take as many positives as possible, this player does not seem like a panic buy but no where near first choices.

I have to be honest, the constant pile on of Akpom really doesn't sit well with me. He appears to be the number 1 scapegoat for many. Do I think we need an upgrade on him? Of course, but,he has been regularly targeted by many for criticism even when not the worst performer on the pitch. He seems a good lad, worked hard in the summer and O'Neil appears to trust him too.

Well said 👏🏻

Couldn't agree more, has been bugging me too.

One eejit even said Chuba's work over the summer was a negative for him (the eejit) because CA should have done it last season.

He scores & people undermine it with more negativity - my granny coulda scored that etc etc. Well, sorry, but many Prem level assists like that excellent one are not put away, either because the supposedly prem level forwards haven't put themselves in the right place at the right time to turn it in, or miss with a horrible howler.

Exactly. I know some are desperate to get Abraham here, but when I heard he was thinking about it a few days ago... I didn't like it at all. It's late in the window and we're offering him a chance to get his career underway again. I'd respect him more if he turned us straight down, rather than keep us hanging on.

There is really never any need to be very down on any player that pulls on blue and white. Ultimately, Owners, Chairman of old, CEOs recruitment teams and manager sign off and decide at a given time the player is right. It is few and far between those that are not either trying to be the best they can or develop on the pitch. For some it doesnt come off and never will, if we have learnt nothing over the last few years the success of the team is built around 25-30 players they are all passing through and they either contribute in training or on the pitch.

Give it up on Akpom. Jeez.

I know he is not to blame for the goal, I was making a ridiculous point in response to the poster. We all know why the goal should not have stood, expect the Ref. Can't blame VAR as i think the stupid rules don't allow VAR to looked as the ref has deemed it accidental.

Yes Akpom has hugely disappointed, especially last season, but it's who we have now thanks to a series of decisions from the club. If we need someone to hold the ball up we know Hirst can do that.

We can't possibly let Akpom go unless Flemming is signed AND we have another striker in the door but that isn't happening really unless a loan as Flemming must take us near our PSR limit.

Guess Abraham is and has always been a loan. Sign him, Flemming (Akpom going the other way), Nwaneri to cover the right and someone like Lloyd Kelly (unlikely to be him as he's an active player for Juventus, but someone like him) to cover defence and what a window it will have been. Even Flemming instead of Abraham with Akpom staying would be fine with me.

Unfortunately, I don't think all of that is possible and we'll go into September lacking depth in certain areas.

I can't see it happening but going into the season with Abraham, Emmerson and Flemming as our striker options would be superb.

My only question mark for the forward positions if that happened would be right wing. We have adequate cover for everyone non-defensive position bar there. I'll be concerned if we head into September with the reserve options being Clarke, Egeli or McAteer. Two would be out of position and the third is not up to the task.

Philogene.

Philogene.

How often have we played Philogene on the right? From memory, when they play at the same time, Clarke is the one who is moved.

Not sure, although he played there for Hull and for the England U21s.

Got to be considered a panic buy and I personally don't feel he's good enough for the PL, but if he joins I will give him full support.

Good to see you carrying on the relentless negativity from yesterday.

Would be slightly happier if O'Neil sees that as his favoured position. He's like Luis - no idea what his current injury situation is.

Yes, I did. Flemming can cover 10 too, which is an upside Abraham doesn't offer.

If we can get in Flemming and loan Nwaneri and Kelly that would be sensational.

There really is no pile up on Akpom, its just that he is not up to the task. He is no different to Al Hamadi, Azon, Parrott ( when he was 19 ) and latterly Hirst ( who probably would have stayed if we could have sold Akpom ). The last two seasons we had two centre forwards on our books so this issue with lack of striking power goes way back. Don't have any issue with Akpom's commitment and effort but unfortunately more than that is required. To say that he is not the worst performer on the pitch does not address the problem of not being a threat up front. I'm not sure if he is 3rd choice quality ( especially if there are injuries ). I would like to see him turn it around but even with his own off season efforts and moving to his correct position, I don't see it happening. O'Neil trusts him because we have no-one else and McKenna clearly didn't, so thats not a great recommendation.

Saw that, was about to post the link. Doesn't feel like that happens as am sure he would need to play above Fatawu.

Which leads to Bellevue Blue correctly saying it's difficult for us to bring in back ups of the required quality. Right wing is a conundrum because we have a few players who we can put out there - Clarke, Egeli, McAteer - but none of them are really up to standard in the role. McKenna rarely, if at all, used Philogene on the right but apparently he played there for England U21, Villa and Hull so maybe he's our first reserve? I wouldn't be against it, as long as he looks comfortable out there.

It's all very well saying get this player and get that player, but we've got 1 day left.... and we need to offload quite a few.
Ogbene, Mehmeti Humphreys, McAteer, Taylor, Palmer all been linked with moves.
Losing count, but we need to really get rid of 4 or 5 of them before we bring in more. Think I read we have 29 senior players.
At this stage, I'd be happy just getting Flemming in. We'll see what tomorrow brings but we have a bloated squad and it's not good business or good for the players keeping unregistered players on the books.

He showed he was good enough last season. It’s a bit of a worry that he’s only had the good one season at a top level and most of his football at a lower level. But he has shown the quality. So we’ve got to assume he can repeat what he did last year unless there’s a very good reason suggesting why he can’t.

EADT claiming other strikers being considered apart from Flemming but we are only going to sign one new striker. I think we need to sign two but one might be a loan. We will need to offload 4/5 players before deadline day to accommodate them. Hopefully someone might want Akpom.

Someone suggested offering him to Burnley as a makeweight in the Flemming deal, but that's only if we can get another striker in - say, if the Abraham offer is still on the table and he accepts.
