Shame he hasn’t made a stand in support of his friend Macklemore.

Macklemore dropped from Ed Sheeran tour after 'Free Palestine' speech https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/art

Ed is getting an incredible amount of stick from idiots like Jones.

No one has a clue what the contact situation is, how much ES would be on the hook for if he broke the contract, the logistics already in place, the engineers and hundreds of crew that would be travelling with him, the thousands and thousands of fans who would have booked travel and accommodation etc etc but everyone knows exactly what he should do.

Just people in the same echo chamber bouncing off each other and talking utter rubbish. The latest baseless claim is that ES has sided with Epstein's big mate Kraft.

Just toxic rubbish. I hope he reproduces his Glastonbury set where he was on his own and opens his next concern by telling the critics to go f##k themselves.

I suppose the point is that some people (like the acts that cancelled and have foregone much needed publicity and money in some cases) think that morals don't have a price. Sod the contracts in other words. For them, speaking out against attrociteis is obviously a higher priority. And that's fine and for them. It's not difficult to recognise that as a valid view.

I do have some sympathy for Ed though in that he's stuck in the middle of a sh*tstorm and has to navigate a way through, including not letting down his fans. That may not be as big a social issue, but it's very likely his main focus and for him at this time more important, so I wouldn't blame him for that either. It's a path he should be allowed to take without being hammered imo.

I don't think there was ever a way out of this that keeps everyone happy.

Ordered one of the Ed Sheeran x ITFC 'PLAY' shirts last week, very unfortunate timing, was going to wear it to Everton this weekend but might have to rethink now! Don't want it to look like an endorsement. A shame

whereas your version of free speech from this thread would seem to be:-

odious antisemites like roger waters and odious transphobes like graham linehan should be free to spout their hateful bile any place they so choose,

rich and powerful venue owners should be able to ban the purveyors of the most anodyne statements if it even risks offending the mango mussolini in the white house

so, basically the rich and powerful can do and say what they like, the people have to suck it up and be quiet.

if that's your definition of free speech, count me out

That’s a shocker of a false equivalence. The people of Palestine are as much victims as the people of Ukraine. They are not all Hamas (unless you think they’re signing up foetuses and babies now). There’s no more justification for the killing of innocent civilians in Palestine because of Hamas than there is for the killing of innocent civilians in Ukraine because of the Azov Battalion, or whatever other fascist loons pop up in that area from time to time.

This thread has gone fkn nuts, and not in a good way.

(I’m a bit behind and see this has already been picked up by others, feel free to ignore).

"people of Palestine are as much victims as the people of Ukraine" - the people of Israel are as much victims as the people of Ukraine. They're not all Israel govt supporters (unless you think they’re signing up foetuses and babies now). There’s no more justification for the killing of innocent civilians in Israel because of the Israeli govt than there is for the killing of innocent civilians in Ukraine.

The solution is two states. Anyone who opposes this is part of the problem.

Wear it. My experience tells me that many of those who shout loud online, won't say anything to your face, especially those on here. They'll perhaps instead post another message online about your top.

Just reading online that Robert Kraft has said that Ed asked him match his 2million USD donation for aid in the region. What a bad guy Ed really is.

Now for the left to say 'oh it's too late' or 'this is only to save his career' ..

This situation and this thread has turned horrible.

Mark Ashton, Nigel Farage, Ed Sheeran and Tommy Robinson in the same room, at Portman Road - there’s a few in this thread who are getting a semi on at just the thought of it.

Personally.. think it’s a real shame for Sheeran that he’s being so easily chucked in with these people. Not just by you. My West Ham dominated family group chat have been piss taking all day that Ed is being ‘supported’ by the likes of Tommy Robinson.

Say what you like about Ed, but I’d put my last quid on him not sharing anything morality-wise to those you mention - let alone being a far-right scumbag like the other names you’ve got him in with. At least with Ashton, we know he actively participated in the Farage sh**e by playing the role of host. Whereas the only mistake Sheeran has done arguably is allow his mate to be chucked under the bus. At worst he’s kept quiet affectively and not stood up for a worthy cause. But that doesn’t make him a bad person and it certainly is a shame for him that it’s resulted in some absolute wronguns (Robinson; the Israel state instagram propaganda machine; that wh**e who was imprisoned for saying the migrant hotel ought to be burned down, etc) trying to act like he’s one of them.

You would have to be very very naive or willfully blind not to believe that the plan for the Gazan leadership and its benefactors is to empty Israel of Israelis. Only solution is two states. Whoever doesn't support this is part of the problem.

Agree with your first statement re intentions to destroy Israel (and I oppose the appalling, disproportionate retaliation & illegal activities from Israel).

However, to chuck in another simplistic deflationary attempt -

I think if you asked the kids (and perhaps many women) on both sides the fundamentals of what they want, they'd be quite likely to get back to basics - ie would have mutual wishes for peace, decent housing, secure supplies of food, fresh water & medical care, the ability to earn a living & be free from all manner of external threats, incl climate change.

You don't need a two-state solution to achieve that. There's nothing to stop two peoples living together in a unified state except human beings' stupid obsessions with 'owning' land, creating separate nations, and apparent need for multiple religions based on different myths.

As astronauts have pointed out - "there are no borders on planet Earth viewed from space". If only all humans recognised this, and the value of co-operation ...

It strikes me very strongly that those words from Macklemore are the very diametric opposite of 'hate speech'. They are full of love for everybody.

Seems like this Kraft-burk is just wanting to silence the condemnation of murder and ethnic cleansing.

well yes, a two state solution is obvious, but how do you implement it without the agreement of Israel bearing in mind there are now 700,000 settlers on Palestinian land and the West Bank is entirely fractured with who knows what plans for occupied Gaza. I am not sure that most of the Muslim world will recognize Israel also. It is not that easy

Living in his neck of the woods and seeing first hand his involvement in the community I'm sure you're right Rommers from what I have directly observed. He has made a right old mess of handling this situation though just as he did when keeping silent over Farage/Ashton.
