Shame he hasn’t made a stand in support of his friend Macklemore.

Macklemore dropped from Ed Sheeran tour after 'Free Palestine' speech https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/art

But seriously, I'm not offended that you care about it, why be offended if others don't?

FWIW, on a daily basis i have to think about my family, kids, their education, their diets, their after schooling activities, sort my household budget, keep the house and garden in good condition, fix things that break, build new things to make it look nice.

I have zero time to put what is happening miles away in the forefront of my mind.

People aren't wrong for not caring, incredibly arrogant to think we should all care because you do.

You want to be more careful if you have to fix things that break on a daily basis!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I was referring to the left when I say "you lot". Politically I'm homeless, but have always found the left to be aggressive/judgmental. But that's only my opinion, so means very little.

Anyway, full respect to the other situations you mention. Can't be easy, so hats off to for that.

I think you’d do well reading the content offered, instead of forming a pre-requisite judgement based off of your experiences with other people that for some reason you categorise into all being one and the same.

It’s not easy, but that’s life- I’ve also my own disabilities and career to juggle- but the key to *all* of it is empathy. I don’t know you and I can only go on what you’ve offered of yourself here, but you come across as severely lacking in empathy.
You have jobs to do, so you can’t care about others? Personally gave me a very uncomfortable feeling. We all have jobs to do, but we all have a duty to one another to.

I’m sure you’re a decent fella in reality, but investigate that thought pattern, consider that before the genocide there were hundreds of thousands of men in Palestine, doing just as you do, looking after their families, homes, working - all now slaughtered without just cause.

People are allowed to be overwhelmed by their own lives and step back from global tragedies without being morally judged for it.

I feel for Ed on this one. He's a global superstar who works very hard to remain neutral avoid bringing politics into his shows because he knows how damaging it can be to his brand, only for his mate to just absolutely drop him in it here.

Macklemore was probably warned that this was not something he could do on this tour and chose to ignore him. Ed is just a musician, not a politician, he doesn't need to be getting involved with any form of current affairs, so if he chooses not to, his support acts should respect that.

"so you can’t care about others"

Let me clarify, I care deeply for all my friends and family. I have just returned from an holiday in a location where I was surrounded by brilliant locals, all of who I care for, and god forbid they were hit with a natural disaster I'd be offering what I could to support them.

So I'm not a full monster. Just don't think about what's happening over there.

Of course you’re not a ‘monster’ mate, that’s an extreme - as I said “ I’m sure you’re a decent fella in reality”

I try think what you’re showing here though is a classic case of “I’m alright Jack” but with an added level of, well, I’ve met these people, so they matter to me.

Personally, I don’t need to have met the families that have lost children, had homes destroyed and lives ruined by Israel’s campaign of hate, to feel empathy with them.
I appreciate we’re all different though and you are just being honest- as I said before, I’d invite you to explore that thought process a bit more and understand that what matters about the world is more than just what’s close enough for you to physically reach out and touch, at any one moment.

Appreciate the sincere exchange, even if we are diametrically apposed on this.

I think that’s where I am as well. Ed, or someone in Ed’s team, would have been fully aware of Macklemore‘s position on this issue - and that the chances of him remaining silent were quite low.

If Macklemore decided to ignore requests for him to be quiet whilst performing then I do have sympathy for Ed.

Another thought experiment....

If some sort of leftist, anti-war and peace loving government took hold in Israel and opened up the border what do people think the Islamist response would be?

History is inclined to suggest it would be violent, genocidal (literally in this case) and involve ethnic cleansing of the Jews.

why would a peace loving government open the borders?

it'd be a 2 state solution with security considerations as agreed in oslo.

hamas wouldn't be able to ethnically cleanse the jews in israel and the israeli settlers wouldn't be able to ethnically cleanse the muslims(and christians etc) in palestine (as is the current status quo)

That was the same argument used to justify apartheid in South Africa. Portraying the oppressed as monsters doesn't justify their oppression.

The two state solution has been consistently rejected.

My point was that murderous acts of terrorism would continue as they have done for hundreds of years. History tells Jews that the only people who will take care of them are themselves. A two state solution would not change that.

I’m not being funny but the other day you had “no view” on Stephen Yaxley Lennon and fascism. You’ve no view on Gaza because it’s far away, now you’re tarnishing “the left” on here.

For someone too busy and too localised for politics and political views you don’t half express them a lot, in a very confused way. It’s quite something.

I'm not sure Ed has been particularly bothered about avoiding politics in the past:

"Macklemore was probably warned that this was not something he could do on this tour and chose to ignore him" this is pure conjecture. What are you basing this on? Macklemore's public support was surely known by Sheeran given how outspoken he has been on the issue, he was performing his 2024 protest song as part of the set.

Rock and a hard place for Ed, imo, and he's probably taken the least bad (or rather least disruptive) option.

Hopefully a knock on effect is that people avoid booking shows at Gillette Stadium going forward.
